I stop on my tracks, stare at the women , and then up the sky. As expected the lights were leading to a way ; opposite to the women.
My instincts get to work, and without thinking my feet starts running towards the opposite direction. The lightning strikes, painting the whole sky white for a split second. And I hear her voice.
You'll regret that.
My lungs were on fire, with the effort to keep up with the chase. Soon I hear the sound of rhythmic footsteps, following me at a calm and unhurried pace. So much in contrast to the loud howling of winds and my own terrified state .
Worse enough, no matter how fast I run. The footsteps remain at the same pace, never losing the trail.
Ahead something glows at a distance, and the path splits into two- one way the sky lit up with golden lights and the other with blue. I hault at the diversion. As if following the cue, the footsteps also stop.
I dare not look back.
You'll regret that.
A low hum starts to penetrate my head, piercing into my eardrums. I clutch my head and fall down to the muddy ground. Both the ways start to get violent- With the lightning striking at a frightening pace and the rain intensified.
Then suddenly
A lightning strikes, so powerful— it turns the whole vision white, and I see a broken gateway. It was exactly between both the paths.
This was a decision of intuition- My future depends on my choice. No logic. So I went on with the first thing that came to my mind.
Gateway.
Ignoring my body screaming with exhaustion, and my head deeply penetrated by the creepy hum . I start sprinting towards the broken gateway. Behind me i hear her voice.
You're going the wrong way.
I don't listen and continue on my way. The gateway was within an arm's length- i reach out my hand gripping it's surface.
A white light flashes and I loose consciousness. I feel as if my body was floating, and I go limp.
I open my eyes with a jolt. My body feeling as heavy as lead, even a simple movement feels like a challenge.
My eyes land upon the white ceiling of the hospital bed. I was lying on the hospital bed, surrounded by machines .
Then; I remember
How can I forget?
She did this again- Another one of her construct . None of that was real; the train, the field, the gateway. Except her.
Beside me was my sister, sighing in relief that i was back. Her face creased with worry after she sees my pale face looking up at her for the first time since I woke up.
But something else is also there. I turn my gaze to the corner of the room.
There she was.
In a corner. White hood.
This time hood drawn up.
No face. Just a creepy smile.
Smiling.
Watching.
I shouldn't have been curious about that strange rumour.
They say curiosity killed the cat. But here i was, Alive. Breathing.
...I'm alive...right?
...THE MIST...
