The next few days passed in a blur for Elena. She moved through her tasks mechanically, her mind unable to shake the encounter with Kael. His words echoed in her thoughts, and every time she crossed the threshold of the guest chambers to deliver food or supplies, her heart raced in anticipation. Kael took a step closer, his gaze never leaving hers. “You’re stronger than you know, Elena. You just have to believe it.”

“I won’t force you,” Kael said quietly. “But if you ever change your mind, I’ll be here.”

With that, he turned and walked away, leaving Elena standing in the middle of the library, her heart racing in her chest.
