When I woke up, I was lying in a hospital bed. Touching my flat stomach, I could tell that I had lost the child.
My heart felt like it was being stabbed. Tears gathered in my eyes.
Next to my bed, Julian said hoarsely, “Why didn’t you tell me you were pregnant?” I turned to look at him coldly.
On the day my grandmother died, I had fainted. Evie was worried about my health, so she asked the doctor to give me a full examination. That was when we found out I was expecting.
I never planned to tell Julian about the pregnancy. He did not love me, so he would not love my child. I wanted to raise the baby alone, but now I had lost it too.
Within a few short days, I had lost two members of my family. It was suffocating. I could barely breathe.
Seeing my tears, Julian said in a pained voice, “Don’t be sad, Molly. We’re still young. We’ll have other kids in the future. Your body is still weak from the miscarriage, and crying is bad for you.” I clenched my hands into fists. “If you hadn’t pushed me, Julian Long, my baby wouldn’t have died!”
Julian looked at me guiltily. “I’m sorry. It was all my fault. I didn’t mean to do it!
“Also, I didn’t know Grandma really passed away. I thought you were lying to me. If I had known she’d suffered a heart attack, I would’ve rushed back for the surgery right away…‘‘
Julian had asked his colleagues and found out that my grandmother’s death was no lie.
I laughed coldly. If he actually cared about Grandma, he could have called his colleagues at any time to ask if she really was waiting for him in the ER. However, he never even considered it, so sure that I was lying to him.
He never asked about her health once in the past few days either.
“Stop pretending, Julian Long. In your eyes, Sunny’s dog is worth more than my grandma’s life!”
Julian hurriedly denied it. “No, no! Grandma was really important to me.”
He held my hand, saying devotedly, “Could you please forgive me, Molly? Give me a chance to make it up to you. I know Grandma was worried about you, she wanted me to take care of you. Let’s get remarried, okay?”
I pulled my hand out of his, saying slowly, “My grandma’s last wish was for me to divorce you and never see you again in my life.”
The truth was, Grandma died before she could say anything to me.
This time, I was lying. Even so, I knew Grandma would not want me to stay with Julian. Someone like him did not deserve any love.
Julian was stunned, explaining in a panic, “My relationship with Sunny isn’t what you think it is! She became depressed after we broke up back then, and I feel bad about it. That’s why I’m trying to help her as much as I can now that she’s back. I don’t have any romantic feelings for her anymore.
“You’re the one I love, Molly, Please believe me!”
All I could do was laugh. “If you actually loved me, Jullan, you wouldn’t have left the wedding without a word. You wouldn’t have given my grandmother a heart attack and let her die, all over Sunny’s dog. You wouldn’t have pushed me down the stairs and caused me to miscarry, all so I’d apologize to Sunny!
“Don’t insult the name of love, Julian. You disgust me.”
Julian was at a loss for words. His gaze fell onto my belly. “Im sorry, I really didn’t mean to push you. If I had known you were pregnant, I wouldn’t have fought with you or gotten that divorce. It’s all my fault.”
I closed my eyes, grieving over the baby that could have been.
“There’s no point saying that anymore. The baby is gone, and so is the last link I had with you. Now get lost, I don’t want to see you anymore.”
As soon as Julian left the hospital room, he bumped into Sunny.
“Is Miss Shane alright?” she asked.
