I woke up to the sound of a stranger's voice, his words soft and gentle. "Hey, are you okay? You've been out for a while."
I sat up, rubbing my head. "What happened?" I asked, my voice groggy.
The stranger smiled. "You fainted," he said. "I think it was just exhaustion and stress. You've been through a lot."
I nodded, trying to process everything that had happened. The Skarvik, the water blast... it was all so overwhelming.
As I looked at the stranger, I felt a sense of unease. Who was he, really? And why had he saved me?
"Who are you?" I asked, my voice firm.
The stranger's smile faltered for a moment, and I saw a flash of something in his eyes. Something that looked almost like... sadness.
"My name is Ryker," he said. "I was just passing through the forest when I saw you being attacked."
I narrowed my eyes. "What were you doing out here?" I asked.
Ryker shrugged. "Just traveling," he said. "I like to keep to myself."
I studied his face, trying to read his expression. But all I saw was a mask of politeness.
I didn't know what to make of Ryker. Was he a friend, or a foe? I couldn't shake the feeling that he was hiding something from me.
As I stood up, Ryker offered me his arm. "Let's get out of here," he said. "It's not safe."
I hesitated for a moment, then took his arm. As we walked through the forest, I couldn't shake the feeling that I was walking into something much bigger than myself.
After a while, we arrived at a small village. Ryker led me to a large house in the center of the village, where a group of people were waiting for us.
"Ryker, welcome back!" one of them exclaimed, a tall, imposing man with a warm smile. "And you've brought a guest!"
Ryker nodded, his eyes locked on the man. "Lord Thomas, this young lady was being attacked by Skarvik," he said. "I brought her here for safety."
Lord Thomas's expression turned serious. "Thank you, Ryker," he said. "We'll take care of her."
The villagers welcomed me warmly, offering me food and shelter. There was Sophia, a young woman with long, curly hair and a bright smile. There was Marcus, a tall, muscular man with a scar above his eyebrow. And there was Elara, an older woman with a kind face and a twinkle in her eye.
As we sat down to eat, Lord Thomas turned to me. "So, little miss, what brings you to our village?" he asked.
I hesitated, unsure of how much to reveal. But there was something about Lord Thomas's kind face that put me at ease.
"I'm just a traveler," I said. "I was being attacked by Skarvik and Ryker saved me."
Lord Thomas nodded. "You're safe now," he said. "You can stay with us for as long as you need."
I smiled, feeling a sense of gratitude towards Lord Thomas and the villagers. But as I looked at Ryker, I couldn't help but wonder if I was really safe.
Or if I had just traded one danger for another.
As the night wore on, I found myself growing more and more tired. Lord Thomas showed me to a cozy room, where I collapsed onto the bed.
As I drifted off to sleep, I felt a sense of unease. I didn't know these people, and I didn't know what they wanted from me.
The next morning, I woke up feeling refreshed. I got dressed and made my way downstairs, where I found Ryker standing outside my window.
As the day went on, I found myself growing more and more comfortable with the villagers. They were kind and welcoming, and they seemed to genuinely care about my well-being.
But as I looked at Ryker, I couldn't shake the feeling that there was something more to him. Something that he wasn't telling me.
And as I looked at the other villagers, I couldn't help but wonder if they were all hiding secrets of their own.
