Frozen Petals – Episode 5
The Cold Edge
The days after Ren’s words still hung in the air like a bitter wind.
Hana was finding it harder to ignore the growing tension between them. Every time their eyes met in the hallway or across the classroom, there was a flicker of something—something sharp, something unsettling.
And yet, every time she tried to understand it, Ren became more distant, colder.
It had been two weeks since Ren’s strange, almost caring words. And yet, nothing had really changed.
The bullying, the whispers—they were relentless. Mika and her clique still made it their mission to make Hana’s life hell. But strangely, Ren’s indifference had grown sharper.
Every time Hana looked for a sign that he was on her side, there was nothing. No support, no silent intervention. Just silence.
One afternoon, as Hana sat in the back of the classroom, working on a project, she caught Ren staring at her. His cold gaze cut through her like an icy dagger, his face expressionless, yet his eyes burned with something she couldn’t name.
Hana tried to ignore it. She had no time for this. She had enough problems without trying to figure out what Ren was thinking.
But that night, as she left the school grounds, she felt it again—a presence. The hair on the back of her neck stood up, and she turned around quickly, only to find Ren following her.
"Can I help you?" she asked, trying to hide the uneasy feeling in her chest.
Ren didn’t speak immediately. He just looked at her with that same unreadable expression, his eyes colder than usual.
"You’re walking alone again," he said, his voice flat.
"And?" Hana didn’t even try to hide the irritation in her tone. She wasn’t going to let him think he could just swoop in whenever he felt like it.
Ren’s jaw clenched, and for a brief moment, the intensity of his stare took Hana by surprise. "I don’t like it," he muttered.
"Well, it’s none of your business, is it?"
But before she could turn away, he grabbed her arm—firm, possessive. His grip was strong, unyielding.
"Don’t walk away from me," Ren said, his voice low, but there was an undeniable sharpness to it that sent a shiver down Hana’s spine.
She froze.
This wasn’t the Ren she had seen before. The indifferent, cool Takahashi had shifted into something darker, something more... possessive.
"Ren, let go," she said, her voice firm, trying to pull her arm from his grip.
He didn’t budge. "You think I’ll just let you wander around like you’re invisible? Everyone else treats you like you don’t matter, but I’m not going to let that happen."
Hana’s chest tightened at his words. His fingers dug into her skin, almost like a warning. "Let go, Ren." Her voice was sharper now, the confusion and frustration spilling over.
Finally, Ren released her, but he didn’t step back. He stood there, eyes dark, his lips pressed into a thin line. "Don’t make me do that again."
She didn’t know what to say. Was he protecting her, or was he just playing another game? His actions made no sense. One minute, he was a cold, indifferent shadow. The next, he was treating her like something he had to claim.
"What the hell is your problem, Takahashi?" Hana snapped, her voice shaking with a mix of anger and disbelief.
Ren’s gaze softened for a moment, but there was something still cold underneath it. "You’re not like the others. You won’t break easily." His voice dropped, almost like a whisper. "That’s why I can’t let anyone else hurt you."
Hana’s heart skipped a beat, but she quickly shut the feeling down. "You think you can just control me, huh?"
Ren’s jaw tightened again, and for the first time, there was an undeniable flash of possessiveness in his eyes. "I don’t want to control you. But I’m not letting anyone take you from me."
She stared at him, unable to process his words. "What are you even saying?"
He smirked darkly, but there was an edge to it that made her skin crawl. "I’m saying… I won’t let them tear you apart. And if you think you’re walking away from me, think again."
Hana shook her head, pulling away from him. "You’re insane," she muttered, the words leaving her lips before she could stop them.
Ren’s gaze darkened, but his voice was chillingly calm. "You’ll see, Moriyama. You’ll see that I don’t let anyone hurt what’s mine."
She stared at him, her heart racing. Was he joking? Was this some twisted game to him? Or did he really…
Before she could respond, Ren turned and walked away, leaving her standing there in stunned silence.
The next few days were even more confusing. Ren had pulled back—way back. He was distant again, like the cold, untouchable person he had always been. But Hana couldn’t shake the feeling that something was changing.
It wasn’t just the possessiveness she felt when he was near her. It was the way the air seemed to shift whenever he was around. Ren Takahashi was no longer the boy who didn’t care about her—he was becoming someone else entirely. Someone darker. Someone who wouldn’t let her go.
And for the first time in a long time, Hana was scared.
