You expect me to believe you did all this just to find me?

Leo leans against the desk, watching her with the patience of a predator.

Leonardo De Luca

I don't expect you to believe anything, Serena. I expect you to listen.

She crosses her arms, feigning indifference, but her heart is pounding.

Serena Vale

Let me guess--this is the part where you tell me I owe you something?

His lips twitch in amusement.

Leonardo De Luca

No. You don't owe me a damn thing.

Serena Vale

Then let me go.

The room thickens with silence. Leo moves before she can react, his hand resting on the door behind her--blocking her escape.

Leonardo De Luca

You don't want that.

Serena Vale

The hell I don't.

Leonardo De Luca

Then why haven't you run?

Her breath catches. She could shove him, scream, do something. But she doesn't. And they both know why.

Leo lifts a hand, brushes a stray strand of hair from her face. It's barely a touch, but it sets her skin on fire.

Leonardo De Luca

You think I'm your cage, angel?

He leans in, his lips ghosting over her ear.

Leonardo De Luca

I'm the only one holding the key.

Her pulse hammers.

She hates him.

She hates that he might be right even more.




