Chapter 3

Chapter 3

"The Game Begins."

Li Wei walked the streets with an easy stride, his head held high and his expression carefree. But beneath the surface, his mind was already plotting his next move.

Song Xue had kicked him out of the building without hesitation, but the fox spirit wasn't the type to let that sort of rejection deter him. If anything, it only made him more determined to get under that cold exterior.

'This man's heart is like an ice mountain,' Li Wei thought to himself, grinning. 'But what's the fun if it doesn't take some work to climb?'

His system buzzed in his head again, the voice as emotionless as always.

"Host, remember your mission. You must win Song Xue's heart, and time is limited."

Li Wei shrugged, though he knew the system couldn't see him. "Don't worry, I've got it under control."

"Don't get overconfident. Song Xue is not someone who can be easily manipulated. His trust is nearly impossible to earn. You must approach him carefully."

Li Wei chuckled darkly. "Carefully, huh? Maybe you haven't noticed, but I don't do anything carefully. That's not my style."

The system paused, and for a moment, Li Wei almost thought it would give him some advice. But then it responded coldly as usual. "Do as you wish, but be mindful of your actions."

Li Wei's grin only widened. "I always am."

He glanced up at the towering skyscrapers that lined the street. Song Xue's company was located in one of those buildings, and it wasn't hard to find out which one. With a man like him, everything about his empire was carefully guarded, but the connections Li Wei had—his sly little tricks—had given him the information he needed in no time.

The door to the building loomed in front of him, and Li Wei paused for a moment to consider his next step. This wasn't just any company; it was Song Xue's personal kingdom. Everything in the building screamed power, coldness, and control. But that wouldn't stop him.

As Li Wei stepped inside the grand lobby, he felt the atmosphere change. There was a hum of quiet intensity in the air, as if every person in the building was constantly on alert. No one seemed to spare him more than a glance, and that suited him just fine. He was used to being invisible when he wanted to be.

He strolled past the reception desk with his hands tucked casually into his pockets. The receptionist didn't even bat an eye, too busy with her own work.

Up ahead, the elevator doors slid open. A tall man in a dark suit stepped out, his eyes narrowing as he saw Li Wei walking in the direction of Song Xue's office. The assistant from earlier.

"Xu Chen," he said, his voice sharp and clipped. "I told you to stay away."

Li Wei stopped and turned to face him, a slow smile creeping onto his lips. "I told you before, I'm not here to listen to you."

The assistant's eyes darkened, but he said nothing. Instead, he stepped aside, allowing Li Wei to continue. But Li Wei noticed that the man was watching him closely.

The tension between them was thick as Li Wei made his way up to the top floor, where Song Xue's office was located. The doors were guarded, both physically and metaphorically. Li Wei knew this was a test, and he was going to pass it with flying colors.

The elevator doors opened, and he walked out onto the floor with purpose. He had no appointment. He didn't even know if Song Xue was in the office. But none of that mattered.

He approached the glass doors to the office, pausing just outside. Through the clear windows, he could see the silhouette of Song Xue sitting behind his massive desk. His posture was perfect, as always, his back straight and his hands placed neatly on the desk.

Li Wei hesitated for a brief second, his lips curling into a smirk. This would be a moment to test just how far he could push.

Without knocking, he opened the door, stepping inside as if he owned the place.

Song Xue didn't even flinch. His cold gaze lifted, his sharp eyes locking onto Li Wei.

"You again," he said, his voice as frozen as his expression. "What do you want?"

Li Wei leaned casually against the doorframe, his eyes twinkling with mischief. "I was just thinking we should have a chat. Don't you think we should get to know each other better?"

Song Xue didn't react immediately. He just stared at Li Wei, his eyes piercing. After a long, tense silence, he spoke.

"Who are you really, Xu Chen? Somehow, you feel very different from the one I knew."

The question hung in the air, and for a brief moment, Li Wei felt a flicker of unease. But he quickly suppressed it, his playful grin returning.

"Isn't that obvious? I'm just a guy trying to get a job done," he said with feigned innocence. "But... I do think we have unfinished business, don't we?"

Song Xue's eyes narrowed ever so slightly. "Unfinished business?"

Li Wei pushed off from the doorframe and took a step closer, feeling the intensity between them grow thicker.

"Yes. I'm sure you remember the past, don't you? The betrayal, the pain. I'm here to fix that. To make up for it." His tone was light, almost flirtatious. "And maybe, just maybe, I can make you feel something... besides cold."

Song Xue remained still, his gaze unwavering, but his lips pressed into a thin line. "You think you can fix anything?"

Li Wei smirked, his eyes sparkling with mischief. "I know I can."

The tension in the room was palpable, but neither of them moved. Song Xue's expression was unreadable, and Li Wei reveled in the silence, knowing he had piqued the man's interest.

Finally, Song Xue stood, his chair creaking as he rose. The cold, imposing presence of the man filled the room. But Li Wei didn't flinch.

"You have a lot of nerve," Song Xue said, his voice icy. "But you won't break me."

Li Wei grinned. "I don't plan to. Not yet, at least."

Song Xue's eyes flickered with something—perhaps annoyance, perhaps curiosity. But whatever it was, Li Wei had caught it. And that, in itself, was a victory.

As Song Xue turned away, dismissing him once more, Li Wei lingered for a moment longer.

"Don't forget about me, Song Xue," he said quietly, his words carrying more weight than he'd intended. "I'm not going anywhere."
