The tension in the room was palpable. Celeste watched Avery with a mixture of disgust and amusement, while Ethan, his face a mask of annoyance, returned to his meal. Jaxon, however, seemed intrigued. He pushed a bottle of expensive wine towards Avery.
"Drink up," he drawled, "and maybe today I'll consider going back with you."
Celeste looked at Avery in anger, her eyes narrowed. Ethan put his hands on the side of his face, a look of disbelief etched across his features.
Avery sat up, examining the bottle of wine. "Wow, this is really expensive!" she thought to herself, impressed despite the chaos unfolding around her.
She looked up at Jaxon, a mischievous glint in her eyes. "Do you really want me to drink the whole bottle?" she asked, her voice laced with a playful challenge.
Jaxon merely shrugged, a smirk playing on his lips. He seemed to be enjoying the spectacle he had created.
Ethan, unable to contain himself any longer, got up and grabbed the bottle from the table. "Jaxon," he said, his voice firm, "she's still a woman. Don't push her."
Avery pulled the bottle back, her eyes narrowing. "Why do guys like you always have to get in my way?" she muttered, her voice barely audible.
Jaxon smirked, his hand tilting her chin up. "Wow! Looks like you've already got my friend defending you? Impressive!" he said sarcastically.
Avery eyed the bottle, a mischievous plan forming in her mind. Ethan, still holding the bottle, looked from Avery to Jaxon, completely bewildered.
Jaxon, sensing her defiance, pulled Avery closer to him, his arm wrapping around her waist. "If you want to play the hero and save her, why don't you drink up on her behalf then?" he challenged Ethan, his voice laced with amusement.
Avery shook her head, a mischievous glint in her eyes. "No, no, no," she declared. "If he drinks it, what will I drink?"
Jaxon chuckled, tightening his hold on her. "How dare you care so much about another man?" he murmured, his breath warm against her ear. "I am still here!"
Ethan, caught in the crossfire, looked from Avery to Jaxon, completely bewildered. He was about to protest when Avery, with a mischievous glint in her eyes, snatched the bottle from his grasp.
To everyone's astonishment, she proceeded to drink the entire bottle of wine in one go.
Jaxon exclaimed in shock, "You drank it all up!"
A wave of dizziness washed over Avery. The world around her began to spin. She pushed Jaxon aside, stumbling towards Eric and Blake.
"They are all so handsome!" she slurred, her voice thick with alcohol. "Who should I choose for tonight?"
Avery turned to Eric, her eyes fluttering. She reached out, caressing his neck. Eric, taken aback, immediately pushed her away, his face a mixture of shock and disgust. Avery, losing her balance, stumbled and fell into Blake's lap.
Blake, startled, caught her before she could hit the floor. He looked from Avery's flushed face to Jaxon, who was watching the scene unfold with a mixture of amusement and disbelief.
