The sun had just begun to rise, casting golden beams through the towering trees of the Forest of Echoes. Raiya's steps crunched softly against the carpet of fallen leaves, her heart steady with determination. The journey to find Thenos had brought her here, to this mystical woodland rumored to be the domain of Lista, the goddess of whispers and secrets.
Lista was known to guard knowledge and truths that others had forgotten or deliberately hidden. If Raiya was to locate Thenos, she would first need Lista’s guidance. Yet, the goddess was said to test anyone who sought her, challenging their resolve and intentions. Raiya tightened her grip on her staff, its crystal glowing faintly as if sensing the magic that lingered in the air.
The forest felt alive. Each rustle of leaves, every birdcall, seemed to carry whispers in a language Raiya couldn’t quite understand. "Lista," she called softly, her voice firm but respectful. "I seek your wisdom."
A sudden wind swirled around her, carrying with it a cascade of murmurs. Shadows danced between the trees, and for a moment, Raiya thought she saw figures moving just beyond her line of sight. Then came the voice—soft, melodic, and layered as though many voices spoke in unison.
“Why do you disturb my forest, seeker? What is it you wish to find?”
Raiya stood her ground, bowing her head slightly. "I am searching for Thenos, the god of celestial magic. The balance of the divine realm is at stake, and only he can restore it."
The voice chuckled, a sound like the rustling of leaves. "Thenos hides among the stars, but his path is not for the faint of heart. What makes you believe you are worthy of this quest?"
Raiya’s chest tightened. She knew the goddess would not accept hollow words. "I have no claim to greatness," she admitted. "But I cannot stand by while the world is plunged into chaos. If courage and determination are enough, then I will find a way."
Silence enveloped the forest. Then, a shimmering figure appeared before her, formed from light and shadow. Lista's ethereal form was both beautiful and intimidating, her eyes glinting like shards of polished obsidian. "Very well, Raiya. But to earn my guidance, you must pass a trial."
The ground beneath Raiya trembled, and the trees around her shifted, forming a circular glade. At its center stood three mirrors, each framed by twisting vines and glowing faintly with an otherworldly light.
"Each mirror reveals a truth," Lista explained. "But only one will guide you closer to Thenos. Choose wisely, for the wrong choice will lead you astray."
Raiya approached the mirrors cautiously. The first showed her a vision of her village, safe and untouched, her family smiling as they went about their daily lives. The second mirror depicted a dark and stormy sky, with stars falling like rain. The third revealed a radiant temple floating among the clouds, its doors wide open as if beckoning her inside.
Her heart ached at the sight of the first mirror. It showed everything she longed for, but she knew it was a distraction—a life that could only exist if she succeeded in her quest. The second mirror’s ominous image sent a chill down her spine, yet something about the falling stars felt connected to celestial magic. The third mirror offered hope and light, but its perfection seemed too convenient.
Closing her eyes, Raiya reached deep within herself, seeking the resonance of her intuition. When she opened them again, she placed her hand on the second mirror. "The stars," she said. "They’re the key."
The mirror shattered, and the fragments transformed into a constellation of glowing symbols that danced in the air before merging into a single point of light. It shot into the sky, illuminating a path through the forest.
Lista smiled approvingly. "You have chosen well, seeker. Follow the light, and it will lead you to your next trial."
Raiya bowed deeply. "Thank you, goddess."
As the light guided her deeper into the forest, Lista’s voice echoed one last time. "Beware, Raiya. The truth you seek may come at a cost."
Raiya stepped forward, her resolve unshaken. She knew the journey ahead would be fraught with challenges, but the glimmering path through the Forest of Echoes filled her with a renewed sense of purpose. Lista had given her what she needed: a direction, and a warning. The rest was up to her.
