CHAPTER 2

...TAEHYUNG'S POV...

I tried to calm myself, but it wasn't working. I couldn't stop trembling. Gathering my courage, I dared to look at the handsome man in front of me. He was impeccably dressed—very well dressed. He must be the king. I had only heard about him from the villagers, but this was the first time I had seen him in person.

I tried to gather the strength and stand before him. Tears continued to flow from my eyes.

I was extremely confused but followed regardless. I limped a little as I walked, pain shooting up through my legs. However, the pain was nothing compared to the constant ache of hunger, which left his stomach empty and hurt.

I was led into a massive dining room.

I followed you through the long castle halls, the stone floor feeling cold under my barely covered feet. As I entered the dining room, my eyes widened a little at the sight of the room, looking almost like a little kid, as this was the first time I’d ever seen such a place. I couldn't help but stare around the room for a moment before looking back at the stunning man with me. A smile crept onto my face.

“Take a sit”

I did so, taking a seat on a fancy padded chair and looking up at him. I was very confused about the entire situation, but I still thanked him quietly anyway for allowing me to sit down.

I noticed he signaled to one of the serving maids who were standing to bring us some food. She nodded in response and hurried off before coming back. After a few minutes, they dressed the table with ravishing meals. My eyes widened at the sight of the food. The smell made my mouth water uncontrollably. I could barely restrain myself from just grabbing the food and eating it as quickly as possible, yet I was also hesitant, looking at your permission.

He noticed it.

"Serve yourself."

I didn't take long to accept your permission. Without thinking, I grabbed some food, stuffing it into my mouth without any sort of proper manners. At first, I chewed slowly, savoring the taste, but in a matter of seconds, my self-control collapsed. I began practically shoving the food into my mouth, almost as if I couldn't help it. I had forgotten all the sense of manners and only focused on making my stomach feel even a small amount full, desperately trying to stop the horrible ache of hunger as if this was my first meal in years.

"Taehyung, slow down."

He commanded while filling his plate.

My eyes suddenly flickered up to look at him as he spoke. A light blush appeared on my face as I realized what I had been doing. I hadn't even noticed how ridiculous I must've looked, so hungry and desperate. I slowed down and chewed on the food for the moment before swallowing and responding.

“S-Sorry…. I don't know what got over me there-”

“Hunger is what got over you”

I nodded, feeling the gnawing hunger that had plagued me for far too long. My thin, scarred face and body, along with the way my clothes were barely held up by a rope, were clear evidence of my suffering. Even when I tried to slow down, eating was still not an enjoyable task; I found myself shoving food into my mouth far too quickly. Still, it was at least somewhat better than before.
