ep 5 ( An unexpected lunch date)
Meanwhile, Jungkook sat in his father’s study, the scent of polished wood and expensive leather filling the room. His father, Mr. Jeon, flipped through some documents, barely sparing Jungkook a glance.
mr. jeon
“The engagement party was... adequate. You managed not to embarrass yourself, so that’s a start.”
jeon jungkook
(dryly): “High praise. I’ll cherish it forever.”
mr. jeon
(ignoring the sarcasm): “There’s a board meeting later this week. I expect you and Y/N to make an appearance as a united front.”
jeon jungkook
“You mean play pretend.”
mr. jeon
(Sharply): “You’re the heir to this company, Jungkook. Play your part, or watch everything crumble. The choice is yours.”
Jungkook clenched his jaw but didn’t reply. As he left the study, his mother intercepted him in the hallway.
mrs. jeon
“Give her a chance, Jungkook. You might find Y/N isn’t as terrible as you think.”
jeon jungkook
(sighing): “Why does everyone assume I’m the problem?”
mrs. jeon
(smiling knowingly): “Because you usually are.”
The next day, Y/N received a surprise text from Jungkook:

Meet me at the café on 5th. Noon. Don’t be late.
Y/N
(to herself): “Is this an ambush?”
Despite her suspicion, curiosity got the better of her, and she arrived at the café to find Jungkook already seated, dressed casually but still looking annoyingly perfect.
Y/N
“This better not be another lesson in ‘fake smiles and forced small talk.’”
jeon jungkook
(ignoring her jab): “I thought we should talk. Without an audience for once.”
Y/N sat down reluctantly.
jeon jungkook
“Look, I know this arrangement isn’t what either of us wanted. But my father’s already planning for us to attend meetings together. If we don’t figure out how to work as a team, this is going to be a disaster.”
Y/N
(Raising an eyebrow): “And you care about that because…?”
jeon jungkook
“Because I don’t like failing. And if I’m stuck with you, I’d rather we not make fools of ourselves.”
jeon jungkook
(sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose) “Can we just try to get through this without killing each other? At least in public?”
Y/N hesitated, then extended her hand across the table.
Y/N
“Fine. Temporary truce. For survival’s sake.”
jeon jungkook
(shaking her hand): “Temporary.”
Their moment was interrupted by a loud voice.
jimin
(grinning as he and Taehyung approached): “Well, well, if it isn’t the happy couple!”
taehyung
(mock whispering): “Do you think they’re on a date? Should we leave?”
Y/N
(groaning): “Oh my god, please don’t.”
jeon jungkook
“You’re not helping.”
As Jimin and Taehyung made themselves comfortable at the table, Y/N shot Jungkook a look.
Y/N
“See? This is why truces with you don’t work.”
Later that week, Jungkook and Y/N found themselves at a high-profile charity gala, their first public appearance as a couple since the engagement party. The room was filled with influential figures, all eager to scrutinize their every move.
Jungkook leaned toward Y/N, his voice low.
jeon jungkook
“Remember, fake smiles and minimal insults.”
Y/N
(smiling brightly): “Oh, don’t worry. I’m a natural at this.”
As they made their rounds, Y/N surprised Jungkook by holding her own in conversations about business and philanthropy. She even managed to charm a notoriously difficult investor, earning an approving nod from Mr. Jeon across the room.

(as they stepped aside briefly): “Not bad.”

(smirking): “Was that a compliment? Be careful, Jungkook, or I might start thinking you like me.”
jeon jungkook
“Don’t get ahead of yourself.”
Just as the evening seemed to be going smoothly, a reporter approached, microphone in hand.

“Mr. Jeon, Miss Y/L/N, any words about your upcoming wedding?”
