Dad's birthday
This story could be little bit slower but with unique story line.
I hope you guys enjoy and give your feedback.
Stella sat at her desk, the soft hum of her office filling the silence. The city stretched out beyond the large glass windows, a panorama of towering buildings and endless possibilities, yet she felt confined. Every corner of her immaculate office reflected the polished, professional persona she had spent years constructing. From the tailored blazer she wore to the perfectly organized desk, every detail was a statement. A statement that, she had been told, would guarantee success.
Stella
She didn’t know why it didn’t feel like an accomplishment anymore.
Her phone buzzed, breaking her thoughts. Another message from her mother.
Catharina Laurent
[Have you decided on the promotion yet? It’s such a great opportunity for you. You’ve worked so hard, Stella.]*msg*
Stella stared at the screen for a moment, fingers hovering over the keys. The promotion was hers for the taking. But was it what she wanted?
Stella
[I’ll think about it,]
It was always the same conversation with her mother. Always the same pressure.
Her phone buzzed again, this time an incoming call from her younger brother, Alex.
Alex Laurent
Hey, you coming to Dad’s birthday dinner tonight?(His voice was light)
Stella
Ugh, I don’t know Alex. I have a lot of work to finish up. (She leaned back in her chair, staring at the spreadsheet in front of her that seemed to stretch on forever.)
Alex Laurent
You always have work to do.( Teasing tone)
Alex Laurent
Come on, it’s Dad’s birthday. You know he’s going to guilt-trip you if you don’t show up.
Stella
(Snorted) Yeah, I know. He’ll say something like ‘the family is the most important thing,’ and then boom, guilt trip.
Alex Laurent
I’m just saying, you need a break from all that corporate talk.(carefree tone)
Alex was always the carefree one in the family, the one who didn’t let the pressures of success get to him.
Alex Laurent
You work hard, but you never seem happy.( concerned tone)
Stella
I’ll think about it.
Alex Laurent
Well, I hope to see you there. You know, just come for a bit. I’ll save you a seat.
Stella
Okay, I’ll try.(light mood)
Alex Laurent
Love you (hang up)
