Prologue: The Pocket Watch
Prologue: The Pocket Watch
Amara Williams
Another dead end...
Amara sighs, scrolling through old articles on her phone. She’s been researching for weeks, but nothing stands out.
Amara Williams
“I need something big…”
She mutters to herself, heading out to the antique shop she spotted earlier that day. It's small, tucked between modern stores. As soon as she steps in, the smell of old wood and dust fills her senses. She’s intrigued.
Shopkeeper
"Looking for something special?"
The elderly shopkeeper asks, smiling warmly. His wrinkled eyes sparkle with mystery.
Amara Williams
"Just browsing…"
She runs her fingers along the shelves, stopping at an ornate pocket watch. It’s strange, unlike anything she’s ever seen before. The delicate engravings shimmer in the dim light.
Amara Williams
It’s almost like it’s calling to me...
Amara touches the watch, and in that instant, the room feels heavier. The air crackles with energy
The world around her begins to swirl and blur. She blinks rapidly, disoriented. The ground beneath her feet vanishes.
Amara Williams
Oh God, what’s happening?
Her heart races, and her stomach twists. The shop disappears completely, replaced by a grand, old hall with stone walls and lit candles. The sound of distant footsteps echoes, and she spins around to see a tall man approaching.
Ethan Thorne
"Who are you?"
His voice is calm but laced with confusion. He steps closer, his piercing blue eyes narrowing as he surveys her with suspicion.
Amara Williams
What the hell?
Amara stares at him, frozen in shock. She looks around, trying to make sense of her surroundings. This is no antique shop… it’s like she’s in a completely different time.
Amara Williams
"I… I don’t know."
Her voice trembles as she tries to find her bearings. She looks down at the pocket watch in her hand, which has mysteriously appeared with her, its face glowing faintly.
Ethan Thorne
"You’ve come from nowhere, and now you stand in my home. Explain yourself."
The man’s words are firm, but there’s a hint of concern in his eyes. Amara realizes she's no longer in her world
Amara Williams
I don’t understand... How did I get here?
Amara’s mind races. She has no idea where—no, when—she is. The only thing that seems real is the watch in her hand.
Ethan Thorne
"Who sent you?"
Her breath catches in her throat.
Amara Williams
"I swear, I don’t know. One minute I was in a shop, and now—now I’m here."
Ethan Thorne
"You’re not making sense. You must be a spy, a thief..."
He looks suspicious, but something in his expression softens slightly as he studies her. Amara, still in shock, tries to gather herself.
Amara Williams
"Look, I’m not a spy, I’m just… I’m just trying to figure out what happened!"
She looks around again, desperate to make sense of this new world.
Ethan Thorne
"I can see you are not lying. But tell me… What is this strange object you carry?"
His gaze falls to the pocket watch in her hand, its strange glow now undeniable.
Amara Williams
"I think… I think this is why I’m here."
She clutches the watch tighter, the weight of the situation beginning to sink in. Ethan’s eyes are narrow, still full of suspicion, but also curiosity.
Ethan Thorne
"You will explain this, or you will leave."
He points toward a large door behind him.
Her mind races. She has no idea where—or when—she is, but one thing is clear: This is only the beginning of something much bigger.
And so begins Amara's journey through time.
