Chapter 4 - On the Run

Oh god I feel so bad, not because I beat the shit out of my uncle, but because Mel had to witness it happen. I mean it's not the first fight she's seen, and not the last. although she's usually watching me get beat up by other boys around my age, but this, this was just different. She was raised on the fact of knowing who she can trust and who not to trust, and when that list gets tampered with it kinda messes her up, especially considering she's 8. But I had decided to pack our stuff and skidadal because after I carried my unconscious Uncle out of the burning house, I don't think I can ever go back. So we hit the road in my Uncle's car. So that means if I get pulled over, I'm probably fucked. "So where are we going?" Mel asked. She's still wounded and has no idea what happened. all she knows is that she's in a car and we're headed the opposite way from home. "We're leaving." I said calmly. "Why?" she replied. Damn kids and their questions. "Because we cannot go back." I replied casually. "Why?" She repeated. "Because we are not welcome there anymore." I replied to her 'why' once more. "Is it because you got in a fight with uncle Ron?" She said. No words. It was silent, I honestly didn't think she knew. "Is it because you burnt down his house with your new superpower?" ****. She knows, and there's nothing I can say or do to convince her it didn't happen because she obviously saw it. "How did you know I thought you were knocked out?" I said a tad frustrated but so little frustration you could barely notice. "I was, for some of it and I saw you kick Ando and Trevor's asses!" She said excitedly. "Oh that's their names? How did you know that, and also how do you know I have whatever kinda power you think I have?" I said questionably. "1. Because they're at Ron's house all the time. and 2. Because when you carried me to the car I was awoken by your heat. I thought you were just sweating because you just got in a fight but then I saw your clothes burning off you and I thought maybe you were just in the fire but then the fire reached your skin and you didn't even react!" she said. "How do you know I didn't feel it?" I said. "because your skin wasn't burned. and that means you're immune. So I thought You started the fire. She said. It's amazing how she knows more about me than I know about me. I had no idea my skin didn't burn and my blemishes and bruises were gone. I am definatly sore though. I cleared my throat as if I was about to speak, but I couldn't find words for what an 8 year old just said to me. Damn she watches too much Marvel Movies. "Sooooo... Where are we going?" She asked. "We're going to get off this planet before anything else happens to you or me." I said. Now I did not even plan this timing but it's like in every action movie, they say something's not happening, and bang! It happens. A black SUV rams the back of my car, we jolt ahead, I put the pedal to the medal. I am not dying today, and if it's true what Mel said then I'm regenerative, which means I can do anything, and survive, still.... don't wanna test that theory. The SUV has now made its right front wheel level with my back left, He turns to the right sharply and I started spinning. "What the hell?!" I shouted. I steared and finally got the car even again and I floored it, but alas it was no use, they were faster than I. So I just slammed on the brakes and then quickly turned the tide. the hunted was Now the huntie. I kept slamming the rear of that SUV trying to pillar park him to a point that my car was smoking. Then there was gunshots, at this point I was a little pissed my anger was doing the driving and didn't even realize that Mel was in the car. More gunshots and I saw him aim at the passenger side and I quickly dived over to protect her, but I was too late. She had been shot in the chest. And as my car hit the barrier I wished I was dead. Nothing could fix this. She was dead.
