chapter 5

WOLF

He wanted answers and he wanted them quick. Who gave her the bruises? Who did he have to hunt

down and kill for hurting this precious woman?

Setting the soup on the coffee table, Wolf stood and raised his eyebrow at her.

“Yeah, yeah. I’m staying put,” she said, the corners of her lips turning up just slightly.

She was a sassy little thing. Definitely scared of something, but she’d shown her fiery side to him

a couple of times. While his Daddy side wanted to give her a good lecture, another side of him loved

that she wasn’t just letting him walk all over her. Because he would if she let him. He would wrap her

up in the safety of his house and coddle her and never let her out of his sight if it were up to him. But

something told him she wouldn’t tolerate that.

Opening the front door, he saw Addie, Kylie, Knox, and Ash all standing on his doorstep with

curious expressions. The two women looked a bit more excited than curious, though.

“Are you going to let us in or make us stand out in the snow all night?” Knox finally said, holding

out the bag of litter he was carrying.

Wolf took it from him and backed up, letting them inside the house. The women were both clearly

in Little Space, or had been in Little Space before they came, because Addie had pigtails in her hair

and wore a pair of lavender leggings with sparkly hearts all over them, and Kylie had an enormous

bow in her hair and was wearing what looked like a bunny onesie, though he couldn’t tell for sure

since they both had huge jackets on.

Ash and Knox helped the women out of their coats and yep, Kylie was wearing a bunny onesie

and Addie’s shirt had a picture of a unicorn on it and the words “Cute and Magical” printed around it.

“Dude, who’s this woman?” Ash whispered as he hung up his own jacket.

“It’s a long story. Just shut up and be nice,” Wolf grumbled.

Ash looked to Knox and then back at Wolf. “When the fuck am I ever not nice? If I recall

correctly, you’re normally the big grouch of the family.”

“That’s not true. Hawk is way more grouchy than I am,” Wolf countered.

“I don’t think so. Hawk is a damn cakewalk compared to you,” Ash replied.

Both women giggled as they looked up at the three men.

“Why the fuck am I even arguing with you right now?” Wolf asked.

Ash shrugged. “Because you’re easy to rile up.”

Kylie smacked Ash’s arm. “Daddy, be nice to Wolfie. He needs our help. Lead the way, Uncle

Wolfie!”

Thank god for Kylie. He needed to remember to buy her some chocolate or something to thank her.

Wolf walked further into the house with everyone following. To his surprise, Lucy was sitting

right where he’d left her with her eyes closed. Shit. Who knew how long she’d been out in the cold.

The poor thing was probably exhausted.

“Tate is on his way. He had to finish up his shift at the hospital,” Knox told him quietly.

Lucy’s eyes fluttered open, a look of fear on her face as she took in her surroundings. He hated

that her instant reaction when she woke up was to look around to see if she was safe. That should

have been the absolute last thing on her mind.

Her eyes landed on Kylie and Addie, who were smiling at her as though they could hardly wait to

become her new best friends. The fact that his brother’s girlfriends were so eager to meet Lucy and

make her feel welcome warmed his heart.

“Lucy, these are my brothers, Knox and Ash, and these are their girlfriends, Addie and Kylie.

Everyone, this is Lucy.”

She studied his brothers warily and then offered a small smile to Kylie and Addie who were

waving hello and practically bouncing on their toes. Yeah, they were in Little headspace.

“Dude, are you trying to roast her to death? How many blankets does she have on?” Ash asked,

giving him an incredulous look.

“She needed to warm up. She was freezing,” Wolf answered, looking over at Lucy.

Knox chuckled and scratched his nose, shooting Wolf an amused look.

“I think she’s warm. Her cheeks are bright pink,” Knox whispered.

Walking over to Lucy, Wolf leaned down and rested his hand on her cheek. His cock stirred in his

jeans when she leaned into his touch just slightly. If he hadn’t been paying such close attention, he

probably would have missed it.

“Are you warm, Lucy girl? How’re your fingers and toes?” he asked.

Looking up at him with her big brown eyes, Lucy licked her lips and nodded. “I’m getting warmer.

My toes are still cold but the rest of me is warm.”

Nodding his head, Wolf pulled several blankets off her until there were only two covering her up

to her chest.

“Keep your fingers and toes under the blanket. Actually, take off your socks and shoes. I’m going

to go grab a pair of my thick winter socks,” he told her.

Without waiting to see if she would obey, he jogged upstairs and grabbed a pair of socks for her.

By the time he was back downstairs, which was all of about thirty seconds, both Addie and Kylie

were sitting by Lucy. All three of the girls giggled and Wolf somehow knew that whatever was said

was probably about him.

Kneeling down in front of Lucy, he pulled her feet out from under the covers one at a time,

noticing how dirty they were before he slid the socks over them. He so badly wanted to strip her

naked and give her a bath. He hated to wonder how long she’d been on the streets without access to a

shower.

“Your toes are like icicles,” he grumbled as he covered her back up.

As he lifted his gaze, he realized she was staring at him with a shocked expression. He offered

her a smile and then looked at the other two women.

“Be good,” he warned them.

He hoped those two words would be enough for Kylie and Addie to know that they would be

busted if they decided to be naughty around Lucy.

Kylie replied by sticking her tongue out and Addie just nodded, her expression oozing mischief.

Great.
