Gathering Shadows
[Location: Ashford City - Old Library, Afternoon]
*Aiden Malik sits at a dusty wooden table in the back corner of the old city library, surrounded by stacks of ancient books and scrolls. Sunlight filters in through the grimy windows, casting a warm glow on the faded pages. Kael stands nearby, watching the entrance like a hawk.*

*Flipping through another book, frustrated*I don’t know why we’re wasting time here.
Aiden Malik
Shouldn’t we be finding more allies or something?"
Kael
*Leaning against a bookshelf, arms crossed* Knowledge is as important as numbers, Aiden.
Kael
If you don’t understand the power you hold, you’re as good as dead when Aric finds you.
*Aiden rolls his eyes but doesn’t argue. He knows Kael’s right, even if he hates admitting it.*
Aiden Malik
*This is all so insane. A week ago, I was just a guy with no clue. Now I’m supposed to be some kind of chosen warrior?*
*He picks up another book, its cover thick with dust, and flips it open. Inside are illustrations of ancient symbols ones that look eerily similar to the ones on his tablet.*
Aiden Malik
*To himself*These… these are the same marks from the tablet."
Kael
*Kael straightens, his interest piqued.*
*Aiden scans the page, his finger tracing over the symbols.*
Aiden Malik
It’s… a prophecy. Something about an ‘Heir of Power’
Aiden Malik
Who will either bring balance or destruction.
Aiden Malik
*He pauses, a chill running down his spine.*

And a warning ‘Beware the Shadow King, who seeks to claim the Crown of Ages and bend it to his will.

That’s Aric. The Shadow King….

He’s been gathering power for years, preparing for this
*Aiden closes the book and looks up at Kael.*
So what’s the plan? If he’s that strong, how do we even stand a chance?
Kael pushes off from the shelf, his eyes meeting Aiden’s with a serious intensity

By finding others who can help us. There are those who still resist Aric’s influence those who believe in the balance.
Aiden Malik
*Aiden raises an eyebrow.*

And where do we find these people?
Kael
*Kael smiles slightly, a hint of a plan forming*

I know a place. But it’s not going to be easy getting there.

*Aiden and Kael stand outside an old, abandoned church on the outskirts of the city. The once-grand building is now a crumbling ruin, its stained glass shattered and its doors hanging off their hinges.*

*Looking up at the church, skeptical* "This is where we’re supposed to find help?"
Kael
Not exactly. This is where we’re going to find our way to help.
Aiden gives Kael a confused look.

What’s that supposed to mean?
*Kael ignores the question and walks up to the heavy wooden doors. He pushes them open with a loud creak, revealing a dark, cavernous interior filled with broken pews and faded religious icons.*
Kael
Stay close. And whatever happens, don’t make a sound.
*They step inside, their footsteps echoing through the empty space. The air is thick with dust, and the smell of decay is strong. Aiden holds the tablet tightly, ready for anything.*

*Whispering*Why are we here, Kael?
*Kael leads him to the altar at the front of the church. He reaches under a loose stone and pulls out a small, ancient key.*

Because there’s a portal here one that leads to the Sanctuary of Shadows.
Aiden Malik
*Aiden’s eyes widen.*
Aiden Malik
A portal? Like… magic?
Kael
Call it what you want. It’s the only safe place left for those who stand against Aric. But the journey there is… unpredictable.
*Aiden feels a mix of excitement and fear. He watches as Kael inserts the key into a hidden lock behind the altar and turns it. A low rumble shakes the church, and a glowing doorway appears in the air, swirling with dark, ethereal energy.*

So, we just… step through?
Kael
Pretty much. Just remember what I said stay close, and don’t make a sound. The shadows between worlds aren’t as friendly as the ones here.
*Without waiting for a reply, Kael steps into the portal. Aiden takes a deep breath, grips the tablet tightly, and follows him through.*

*The air is cold and thin. Aiden feels like he’s walking through a dream. The path beneath his feet is made of dark mist, twisting and shifting with every step. Above and around them, shadows stretch endlessly, whispering in a language Aiden can’t understand.*

**What is this place? Feels like I’m walking on smoke…**
*Kael moves ahead of him, his steps sure and confident.*
Kael
*Softly*Keep moving. Don’t look into the shadows. They’ll pull you in if you let them.
*Aiden nods, though he’s not sure Kael can see him. He focuses on Kael’s back, doing his best to ignore the strange whispers echoing around him.*

Come closer… find the truth… give in to the darkness…"
*Something brushes past Aiden’s arm, cold and wet like a breath of icy wind. He jumps, almost losing his balance on the unstable path.*
Aiden Malik
*Barely a whisper* What was that?
Kael
A lost soul. Don’t engage with them. They’re remnants of those who strayed from the path.
*They continue walking in silence, the shadows growing denser around them. Suddenly, the whispers become more intense, and the path begins to shake violently.*
Kael
Stay close! The path’s unstable
*A dark shape lunges out of the shadows, slamming into Kael and knocking him off the path. He grabs onto the edge, hanging over a swirling abyss of darkness.*
Aiden Malik
*Panicking* Kael!
*He rushes over and grabs Kael’s arm, pulling him up with all his strength. The shadows seem to sense his struggle, and more of them begin to emerge from the darkness, moving toward them like a swarm.*

**I’ve got to do something…**
*He raises the tablet, focusing all his willpower on it. The tablet flares with bright, golden light, pushing back the encroaching shadows. The path stabilizes, and Kael climbs back onto it.*
Kael
**Breathing heavily** Nice save… but we’ve got to keep moving.
*They push forward, the light from the tablet keeping the shadows at bay. After what feels like an eternity, a new light appears in the distance — a pale blue glow, much more welcoming than the oppressive darkness around them.*
Kael
There it is… the exit.
ZThey quicken their pace, rushing toward the light. As they step through, the shadows vanish, and they find themselves standing in a vast chamber filled with flickering blue flames and stone walls covered in ancient glyphs.*
[Location: The Sanctuary of Shadows - Central Chamber]
*The Sanctuary is unlike anything Aiden has ever seen. The chamber is filled with people warriors, scholars, and mages all dressed in various types of armor and robes. Some look battle-hardened, while others seem lost in deep thought.*

**This… this is where the resistance is?**
Kael
*Kael steps forward, addressing the group.*

Everyone! The heir of Gilgamesh is here.
*The room falls silent. All eyes turn to Aiden. Some faces are filled with awe, others with skepticism. Aiden shifts uncomfortably under their gaze, unsure of what to say.*

So, this is the one who challenges Aric? The heir of the ancient power?
Kael
He’s more capable than he looks, Lilith. And he’s going to need all the help he can get.
*Lilith looks Aiden up and down, her expression unreadable.*
Lilith
We shall see. But know this, boy wielding that power is not just a gift. It’s a curse."
*Aiden meets her gaze, feeling a mix of defiance and determination.*

I didn’t ask for this power. But I’m going to use it to stop Aric. Whatever it takes.
Lilith
*Lilith studies him for a moment, then nods slightly.*
