I don't know how long I was unconscious from the gunshot wound in my chest. I opened my eyes slowly, everything around me was in total darkness.
I felt strange, for a second I thought I had died. However, the pain in my torso made me realize I hadn't.
I closed my eyes again, my mind was playing a trick on me. I clenched my fists tightly as I remembered everything I had been through.
Light beads of sweat fell from my forehead. My mouth was dry, as if I hadn't had a drink of water in a long time.
I opened my eyes again. I straightened up with difficulty. I looked around the room curiously. It was dark, as dark as night.
A white bandage covered part of my torso, the pain was intense, but bearable. I brought my hand to my chest, to be exact, where Lorenzo Cordoba had shot me.
I looked around the room more, I liked how it was decorated. It gave the feeling of being mysterious.
Only a few lamps illuminated the interior of the room. I tried to get up, but my feet had no strength.
I heard the soft, gentle voice of a woman inside.
"Mr. Cordoba, you cannot get up. You are still very weak."
I looked up, watching a slim silhouette emerge from the darkness. The girl in the white uniform was truly beautiful.
Large green eyes, white skin, and black hair. She was a beautiful woman, she looked like an angel combined with a beautiful demon.
That woman would later become my greatest obsession.
"Who are you?" I asked in a curt and cold tone.
She smiled, came closer to me and gave me a crystal glass of water. She helped me drink some water.
"My name is Cecilia, I've been your nurse for two weeks," she replied in a very angelic tone of voice.
"Cecilia?" I whispered.
"Yes. That's my name. I hope we get along well," she added, without erasing that smile from her lips.
The girl helped me back into bed, fluffing up my pillows behind my back. I felt more comfortable.
"Where am I?" I asked confused.
All I could remember was being in the van, and being shot by Lorenzo Cordoba. Of everything else, I remember nothing.
"I wouldn't know how to answer that question, Mr. Cordoba. You should ask that man who is always meddling around here.
"I think his name is Armando."
Cecilia turned, taking the glass to a table in the center of the room. Then she took out some pills and placed them perfectly in order.
"Why do you call me Mr. Cordoba?"
She turned around, not erasing the smile from her lips. Cecilia had a different gleam in her eye.
"You are a very powerful man. They must have erased your mind when you were injured, but you will remember it over time," she answered me.
As I was about to ask another question, the door opened. A middle-aged man dressed in a tuxedo entered the room. Upon seeing the man, the girl bowed her head.
With a wave of his hand, the man ordered the girl to withdraw, she said nothing, obeying the order.
We were silent, he took care of closing the door behind him.
He walked back to the bed where I was, observing me in silence.
"Mr. Lorenzo, I am glad to see you conscious. The family doctor is on his way here." The man bowed before me, keeping his head down.
"You know very well that I am not Lorenzo Cordoba. Why am I here?" I could not help but ask him that question.
I needed answers, my mind was a mess. I needed to know what had happened after the shooting, how did I end up here? Where is the real Lorenzo Cordoba?
"I'm afraid you're mistaken. To everyone you are Mr. Cordoba, you should understand that..." he added, keeping his head down.
I felt like I was the Count of Monte Cristo in this story. Did we both get hurt and swap bodies?
... No, no!...
It would be stupid of me to think that. There is something else behind all this.
After spending two years in prison and going through so much; being shot by the man I considered a friend.
It's all so confusing.
I got out of bed, walked over to where the man was, grabbed him by the shoulders and threw him violently onto the bed.
My hands released him and one of my hands went to the man's neck.
"You have two seconds to tell me what happened, or I swear on my life that you will not leave this room alive!"
I wasn't playing, I wasn't the man I was two years ago, I was willing to get my hands dirty with blood if I had to.
"Mr. Lorenzo is dead!" he blurted out in fear.
"Dead... That can't be, I saw him get out of the van, along with the other man," I replied confidently.
"Yes... However, there was a hell of a time, bullets were flying everywhere, Mr. Lorenzo Cordoba was executed on the spot... But nobody knows that."
"His body was waked and buried two weeks ago. It is in no one's best interest that his death be known. That is why Mr. Cordoba, the father of the deceased, ordered you brought here."
"You will now be the son of Samuel Cordoba. Leader of one of the largest organizations in the world. You will have the world at your feet."
I remember letting go of that man, I was stunned. I didn't expect to take command of a criminal organization.
I had imagined being Lorenzo Cordoba's servant. Having the opportunity to work for him and be able to get enough money to start my revenge.
However, life blesses or curses me with this opportunity.
"What if I refuse?"
"His daughter Lisa, or Marcia, whichever you prefer to call her, will disappear off the face of the earth. No one disobeys an order from Samuel Cordoba," the man replied.
