CHAPTER 4

As we were watching the movie, Jenifer's eyes started to shut. Then the terrible thing happened. "Oh no," I muttered to myself as I realized I needed to pee. I headed towards the bathroom and was in there for quite a while. When I came out, I noticed Cade standing there.

"What do you want?" I said with a hint of irritation.

"Vien, did you miss me?" he asked in a hushed, raspy tone.

I stood there for a minute and said, "Maybe."

To my surprise, he walked towards me and said, "Well, I freaking missed you... Dinklehead," he added, leaving me with a small, smirky smile before walking away.

Feeling a mix of confusion and curiosity, I returned to Jenifer's room. She was still asleep, her head resting on the pillow with the movie playing in the background. As I walked towards my usual spot, I suddenly stopped when I saw that Lucius, who was fast asleep, had taken my place. "Hmm, looks like you'll have to sit here," he said, tapping the bed beside him, and signaling for me to sit. With no other choice, I walked over and sat down. "This is going to be a rough night," I muttered to myself.

Cade POV

I watched Vien intently as her chest rose and fell. She was lying across the bed that I was sharing with her. Her eyes seemed confused, as if something was bothering her. "What are you thinking?" I asked. "Nothing," Vien said in a low tone. I was sure something was troubling her.

After nearly twenty minutes from the end of the movie, I noticed Vien's eyes were getting sleepy. I wrapped my arm around her and laid my head on her shoulder blade. She groaned and curled up more. I shifted, pressing my face into her neck and breathing in her sweet wisteria scent. God, I loved that smell. It was so familiar and just reminded me of home.

Everyone else had fallen asleep about an hour ago. I felt her small hand trace down my arm and rest on top of my hand. My whole body tensed, then relaxed again. Her touch sent chills through me, unnerving chills that I couldn't control. I had never felt like this before, but I didn't want it to stop.

I slowly let my other hand travel across her exposed skin where her hoodie had risen up. Oh god, I'm such an idiot, I thought to myself. I should stop, but I had no self-control and let my fingers draw circles on her soft, smooth skin. It was just so soft and warm. I couldn't help but touch her, but I still respected her space, not daring to go anywhere but her exposed skin.

"What are you doing?" I heard her soft voice ask me. Her words sent shivers down my spine. I slowly looked down at her. Her eyes were still closed.

"Nothing," I said as I continued rubbing her skin. She turned over, her face inches away from mine. Her hazel eyes bore into my deep blue ones. I could still see the sleepiness in her eyes. I watched as her gaze traveled, taking in my face and then down my body. As if something burned her, she snapped out of my arms and sat up on the bed.

"Why are you touching me?" she snapped, and I gave her a smirk, leaning back against the chair.

"I wasn't, dinklehead," I said, and she glared at me. Even as children, we always messed with each other. It was our favorite game.

"You were!" she said, a bit louder.

I chuckled. "Why? Do you want me to touch you?" I asked, leaning closer to her. Her face turned deep red, and her eyes widened.

"NO!" she snapped, trying to hide her face from me.

"I think you're lying," I said in a sing-song voice as I got closer. She leaned farther away from me, but I kept leaning in. She leaned too far and, out of nowhere, fell to the ground with a loud thud. I peeked over and watched her as she lay on the ground.

"Having fun down there?" I asked, and she glared at me. Her glare was as threatening as a squirrel's.

"Why did you do that?" she yelled as she got up. I could see anger in her eyes.

"I didn't do anything," I said, leaning closer to her. She was the one who leaned away from me, causing herself to fall.

"Yes, you did!" she said, standing up and grabbing a blanket to wrap around herself.

"Where are you going?" I asked as I got up and followed her. I towered over her small frame as I followed closely behind.

"Nowhere," she said over her shoulder, sticking her tongue out at me.

"I dare you to do that again," I challenged. She stuck out her tongue again. I rolled my eyes and pulled it lightly, making her let out a high-pitched yelp.

"Oh gross! You probably don't even wash your hands," she yelled, pushing me away. I don't know how she mustered up so much strength, but she did. I slightly lost balance from the force of her push.

"I can't believe you did that. You're so gross!" she yelled again, being overdramatic as always.

"I told you not to, and you did it anyway," I said, laughing as she chugged some water.

"So, what do we do now?" I asked her, leaning over the table to look at her. Her hair was a mess, she had no makeup on, and there was some dried drool on the side of her mouth. Yet, she still managed to look so beautiful. She didn't even have to try to look perfect.

"I don't know about you, but I'm going to sleep," she said, turning around and walking down the hall. I got up and followed her. I was bored—what else was I supposed to do?

"Why are you following me?" she asked without even turning around to face me.

"Why not?" I replied, trailing behind her. She was less than a foot away. I could smell her sweet wisteria and jasmine scent.

"You're so annoying," she said, finally turning around to look at me. The look on her face made me smile in triumph.

"And you aren't?" I asked her, and her eyes grew wide. She huffed, turning away and walking to a room that was probably Jenifer's. I was about to follow, but she slammed the door in my face. As if a simple piece of wood would keep me away from her.

"What, I'm not invited to the sleepover?" I asked, chuckling.

"No morons allowed," she replied, making me laugh even more. I turned the knob and walked in to see Vien already snuggled up in bed.

"Get out," she mumbled, throwing a pillow at me, which I easily dodged. A pillow wouldn't do any damage anyway. She should have known that from the first time she tried to defend herself with one.

"Rather not," I said, plopping down on the bed next to her.

"Why are you here?" she groaned, turning over to face me. She was so close; I could just reach over and kiss her. No, Cade, stop thinking such stupid thoughts.

"I've missed my little dinklehead; it's been three years, you know," I said, smiling, but the mention of the name I gave her seemed to upset her.

"To miss someone, you actually have to like that person," she said in a muffled voice.

"I thought we were best friends," I said, smirking at her. Just the sight of her made me smile. She pulled the blanket tighter around her, bundling up into a small ball.

"Really?" she asked sarcastically.

"Okay, maybe I was a little mean to you, but hey, it was all in good fun. I was just a dumb kid," I said, still smirking down at her.

"All in good fun for you," she mumbled, pulling the covers closer.

"Hey, come on, you wouldn't have paid attention to me if I wasn't teasing you," I said, tugging on the covers to get her attention. It was like I was always seeking her attention.

"Whatever," she said, turning away from me. I watched as she rolled up in the blankets and cuddled into the pillow. I turned over and saw an iPhone. I grabbed it and saw it was Vien's. I tried a few different combinations, but none worked. I leaned over and poked her soft cheek, trying to get her attention.

"What," she groaned.

"What's your password?" I asked, pushing the phone in front of her face. The bright light made her squirm away.

"Why in the world would I tell you?" she asked, cringing away from the screen's brightness.

"Because," I stated, not really having a reason other than being bored out of my mind.

"No."

"Please."

"No."

"I won't leave you alone until you tell me," I said, jumping on top of her and pinning her down to the bed. She was shocked at first, but then she looked mad. I knew she was angry because her eyebrows dipped and she bit the inside of her lip. She always did that when she was angry or annoyed with me or anyone.

"Get off, Cade," she said, struggling under me.

"Tell me," I whined, holding her tighter. I knew she was going to give in; she was too tired to keep fighting against me.

"1995," she said, trying to push me off. But how could she? She was tiny compared to me, which only made me want to tease her even more.

"Thanks Dinklehead" I said rolling off her unlocking her phone. I felt her turn, I look over to see her watching me. Her hazel eyes lost, as sleep was threatening to take over.

I ended up playing some game and when I looked back over to see she was asleep. I placed her phone down and laid back down. I wanted to wrap my arms around her and pull her closer to me. But I knew I shouldn't, I really shouldn't. But I couldn't help myself. I wrapped my arm around her nuzzling my face into her neck. I took her and smiled as I held her closer. I felt her snuggle closer to me making me smile a little bit more than I already was
