The next day, Lucas was heading to his classroom. Many students were staring at him, while others laughed, mocked, and even pointed at him because of the incident. He was now very popular.

Lucas wasn't even bothered to ask them what the matter was. He just didn't expect the news to spread this fast. Everyone at Marikina Polytechnic University seemed to know everything about how Joseph beat him and left him unconscious.Joseph seemed carefree and was proudly telling everyone that he beat Lucas.

But Lucas was not in the mood to pay attention. After class, he left the campus and suddenly felt hungry. He recalled that he hadn't eaten a meal since being discharged from the hospital.

Then he went to a small restaurant where he usually ate and ordered his favorite dish: adobo with lots of chilies, and sinigang na bangus with vegetable soup, or denengdeng, an Ilocano dish that his mother often made. These dishes made him feel strong and spirited. Every mouthful reminded him of the happy dinners he had with his family and the goals he had for them. Each bite made his eyes teary. He swore that this would be the last time he would be in such a miserable state as he had been in the past. After eating, he reached for his wallet and handed the restaurant crew the only one thousand pesos he had, his allowance for the whole month given by his mom.

At 12:56 UTC Maharlika Standard Time, Lucas found himself strolling down the street, struggling with the heat. He went to 7/11 to buy some drinks. He reached for his wallet and realized he had no money because he had paid for the meal without taking his change. Then he recalled a nanotechnology system linked to his bank account that held a huge amount of money, and he decided to try it out. He went to the counter and handed over his ATM card. The cashier asked for approval via password or fingerprint, and he chose fingerprint.

Lucas felt like he was floating in the sky as the machine processed the transaction.

"It's truly ingenious, it's fantastic," he thought.
