In an underground laboratory.
As she lay on the cold floor, blood pooling around her, she looked up at the faces of the people she had once called friends. Betrayal burned in her chest as she realized that they had been planning this all along.
One of the cult members stepped forward, a cruel smile on her face.

You were getting too close to the truth. We couldn't let you expose us
Tears welled up in her eyes as she looked at the woman she had trusted with her life.

The woman laughed, a cold, heartless sound.
Selene
Friends don't stand in the way of power.

The Mother System no longer needed you, so we were left with the last option... Executing you.

By the way, you really came in handy. Without you, we wouldn't have captured the Monroe chief and taken the last piece of the Mother System from him. Without you, the Mother System wouldn't be alive.

With a swift motion, she reached into the woman's chest and pulled out her still-beating heart.
Pain seared through her body as she felt her life slipping away. But even as darkness closed in around her, she made a vow to herself. A vow to seek revenge on those who had betrayed her.

Sometime around a week later
The entire place was shrouded in a mysterious darkness and the only light that illuminated the place was of the light from the patients bed.
The bright lights reflected off the doctor's goggles as he leaned over the patient on the operating table.
He worked swiftly and methodically, his hands moving with practiced precision as he focused all of his attention on the task at hand. Beads of sweat rolled down his forehead, but he didn't dare wipe them away.
The patient's life hung in the balance, and he couldn't afford to make a single mistake.
Hours passed, but the doctor didn't falter. He knew that every second counted, and he refused to let the exhaustion creeping in slow him down.
Finally, after what felt like an eternity, the surgery was complete. The doctor stepped back, his chest heaving with exertion as he waited for any sign of life from the patient.
And then, as if on cue, the patient's eyes fluttered open. The doctor's heart skipped a beat as he watched her gaze focus on him. He held his breath, waiting for a response.

He said, a small smile playing on his lips.
The patient's lips curled into a sinister smile as she sat up on the table, her eyes gleaming with an unearthly light.
