CHAPTER 5 - HOME AGAIN

I can feel the tension in the air...

They are...angry...?? annoyed...??

I don't really know...

But what I know is another storm is coming... A pretty big one...

My parents are sitting on the sofa, hands crossed. Both of them has that dangerous smirk on their face.

"So, Deora...we need to talk", my dad said.

I sat opposite them. There was a complete silence...awkward silence...

Then my mom spoke up.

"Since when were you the best in your grade Deora??"

"Great, so you don't even have a look at my report card before signing it huh...", I thought.

"Since the very beginning ", I said aloud. "Don't you sign my report cards. Do you even go through my marks!??", I added.

"Don't you raise your voice at your mom, Deora!!", my dad thundered.

"As always you are taking her side now...", I kept the thought in my mind.

I have always been seeing this. My parents don't agree in most of the day-to-day things. But when it comes to dealing with me, they suddenly start thinking together alike. Scolding me together.

Torturing me together...

I kept quiet. Answering would only add fuel to the fire. They continued ranting about how unruly and disobedient I had become. I didn't bother to hear. Though I was physically present there, mentally I was somewhere far, far away. Away from the commotion...

The next day was Sunday. When I woke up I found that my parents weren't home. There was a note at the table.

"Something urgent came up. We won't be coming back today. There's yesterday's leftovers in the fridge. Eat those or make something up."

The note was written in a hurry. I could see the crooked letters.

"What could have happened that they both went out together?? Not that I care though. I'll have the house to myself then."

She brushed and bathed...

Then she went to the fridge to find something to eat.

"Hmm...lots of leftovers from yesterday... Nah... No leftovers today...how about making a sandwich...sounds good!!"

She thought and started reaching for the bread. It was a bit high for her so she took a chair, stood up on it and reached the bread. She took the butter from the fridge and some lettuce and tomatoes. Then she made two sandwiches, returned the bread and butter to its place and went to the balcony to sit down and eat.

It was still quite early for a Sunday morning. The roads weren't bustling yet... It was quiet and peaceful. She loved this time of the day. She could find solace in the nature. She loved the nature. She spoke to the nature. She spoke about her sorrows and deepest fears and she could feel the nature replying her back...

To her worries...

Her sorrows...

Her anger...

Her sadness...

Sympathising with her...

After completing breakfast she washed the plate and returned it to its place.

"What should I do now?? I can watch tv all day or I can borrow some new books from the library..."

She chose to do the latter.

It was more productive.

She wore her shoes, took the previously borrowed books and locked the door.

Then she headed towards the library. Once inside, she went straight for the librarian.

"Hello dear!!! Same seat as usual!??"

She nodded and returned the previously collected books. Then she took out a new book from the shelf and sat down

Engulfed in stories.

She was now in a different place, a different world.

A world where she had no worries...

No despair...

And only love...
