“The case would fall under the administration of detective Marcus.”
The firm meeting ended with the declaration of the final decision over the new mysterious case named " The perfect crime." It had already been a week, and the case had gained enough popularity among the netizens that the government officials have started to pressure the investigation team to give them some answers.
Today, a meeting was held by the investigation firm to appoint the lead detective for the case. Even though everybody knew that this wouldn’t be a walk in the park like some other similar cases with a lack of evidence, they still wanted it in their bag.
The investigator teams exited the hall with disappointment and envy towards the popular detective, Marcus Alston, who was able to get it because of his reputation among the court officials and higher parties.
"Detective Marcus! Congratulations on getting appointed on a new case!" The old, bearded man patted the detective's shoulder harshly, making the lean man bounce with every pat.
"Of course. It was all thankful to our senior detective Harrison for leaving it for this pitiful junior." Detective Marcus smiled gratefully, but the other party's hands on his shoulder clenched with enough force to leave a bruise.
Detective Harrison laughed forcefully after he removed his hand and said, “Senior should look out for their juniors. I am just lending a hand in your flourishing career.” He then took a step back, creating a professional distance between the senior and junior.
“I will always remember your help, senior detective Harrison.” Marcus showed a smile filled with gratitude that left Harrison speechless, and after no more than a few words, he said his goodbye and left.
The sun had disappeared, and instead, the half-moon rose over the clear sky, illuminating the dark office.
“Ah! Such a headache!” Marcus groaned in frustration, grabbing a handful of his blond hair in the process. He had been sitting at his desk for hours, but the case was simply a blank page. The death was way too perfect. Marcus had re-read the postmortem file of the four victims for over three hours, but he couldn’t grasp anything that was out of a common murder case.
Even though there was no report of drug use, the victims didn’t show any sign of struggling. The weapon bruises on the father were so gruesome with a total of 7 broken bones - 2 pairs of ribs, left clavicle, right femur, left Fibula, cranium, right phalanges and 2 out of place joint - right-hand carpals and right humerus. It was humanly impossible not to show any signs of resistance.
Marcus had flipped through a few more pages when he saw his phone lit up. It was a call from an annoying person. A call from someone named 'Annoyance' in his contact list. So, he chose to ignore it. The phone blinked a few times and settled.
Tring - Tring
The phone on the office desk rang in the silent office room.
