Chapter 5

As soon as Kevin stepped in, his cheerful demeanor was forced to be replaced with a grim expression. There was no doubt another elite party going on for his family's business friends.The light music background, drinks being served and the non stop chattering of power drunk elite class people. Kevin hated those parties. His parents never paid him the attention he deserved because they were too busy being invested in business parties and partners.

Kevin didn't spare a second glance to his surroundings and stepped inside the hall, on the expensive velvet maroon carpet to be exact; that belonged to the person he hated the most: His stepmother.

He made his way towards his father, Stephen Edgar who was chatting with a group of men, leaving a trail of footsteps on the carpet. Stephen Edgar who noticed his son spoke instantly;

" Kevin Edgar! Why do you forget the etiquettes I've taught you? Who will believe you've done masters in mass communication. Instead of greeting my friends you're staring at everyone and being impolite! You should meet with everyone, so you'll develop some interest in the business "

"Dear father, they are your friends…not mine. I've told you, I don't like anyone in your friend circle."

Upon hearing Kevin's nonchalant and somewhat unexpected response, most people seemed quite shocked and some were displeased, however the person with most displeased expression on her face was no one other than Kevin's stepmother, Melissa Edgar

"Stephen dear, why do you even bother to talk to him, you already know how ill-mannered he is right!?" Melissa rolled her eyes

"Mrs. Edgar, no one is talking to you, it's best that you keep quiet. This is a personal matter between me and my father."

Kevin didn't hesitate once and Melissa's face grew red from anger she wasn't going to let this slide.

"Listen to me Ladies and gentlemen! This is Stephen Edgar's one and only son who has done a PhD in being an insolent rude being! He has never once called me a mother and always insults me! I deserve some credit for being so patient don't I!? . Melissa declared in a loud voice as if giving a speech to the crowd

"Melissa ! For God's sake! Stop making a scene In front of everyone!" Stephen tried to calm Melissa down, but she slapped his hand away.

Seeing Melissa angry, a satisfying smirk spread across Kevin's face. This is exactly what he wanted.

"This young man is the one creating a scene! And he ruined my expensive Iranian carpet!" Melissa kept rambling on in the state of anger

" You might have bought it, but you bought it from my dad's money, and so that means it's mine too. I'm the sole heir of everything my dad has. Either I ruin that carpet or throw it away in the trash...none of that should concern you, right ladies and gentlemen!?"

Kevin said turning towards the guests in the most peaceful manner who were somewhat enjoying the whole drama.
