He and Elisa married even though Elisa didn't want to, but she had to because of her parents and Mariana is a commoner too (she's not she is the lost daughter of count Belarus, but she doesn't know it and Marina to and the count is still looking for her) Elisa had a unhappy marriage and had to have kids with him. Everytime he touched her when they were preparing for a baby She felt disgusted but couldn't do anything about it. she died unhappy but still loved her kids very much and Mariana too who she couldn't confess.
