Xiao Xing’s POV

“Oh, I see. Brittney’s story sounds more realistic, you never mentioned your cut.” Mr. Wen looks at me.

‘If you knew about it and was a good principal, you would’ve sent me to the nurse as well. Favoritism.’ I thought.

“Jayden kicked me! And that left this cut.”

“How could a shoe do so much harm?” Brittney asked, innocently.

“Yes.” Mr. Wen nods in agreement. “You will go to detention for the next two weeks, starting today. Consider yourself lucky. Head to class now.”

“Detention? I don’t even know where the room is.”

“The detention room is in the same hallway as the nurse’s office. The last room.” Brittney smirks.

“Thanks.” I scoff, pick up my binder, and head to the gym.

The bell rings just as I enter the gym.

Wang Junkai’s POV

“Xiao Xing!” I hear Wang Yuan exclaim, running over to the entrance.

I turn immediately and follow him.

Xiao Xing’s POV

“Where were you?! And what’s wrong with your hand?! Do you have to go to the nurse?!” Wang Yuan asks question after question.

Mei Lin, Qian Xi, and Qin Qin come over.

“I was in the principal’s office. I got into a fight with Jayden.” I shrug.

“Look at your hand! You’re going to the nurse!” Wang Yuan says again, starting to lead me toward the door.

“No, thanks.” I shake my head. “The nurse is no help. And Jayden’s probably in there anyway.”

“What happened? Tell us the full story!” Mei Lin says, worriedly glancing at my hand.

I tell them the story.

All of them angrily glance over at Brittney and MacKenzie.

When all the students are dismissed, I head over to the detention room.

Mrs. Chang, the detention monitor, is on her phone giggling.

She had her earbuds in and was watching another one of her romantic comedies.

I sit down and unlock my phone.

“Hey!” Mrs. Chang pauses her movie and takes out an earbud. “You can’t be on your phone!”

‘But you can?’ I put my phone in my pocket.

For the next hour, I sit there doing nothing. Mrs. Chang wouldn’t even let me do homework or study.

‘What a waste of my time.’ I glance up at the clock.

My time was up ten minutes ago.

I gather my things and leave. I start to walk home. A paper ball hits the back of my head.

“Hey, loser. Enjoy detention?” It’s Brittney. And MacKenzie and Jayden.

MacKenzie snickers.

I start to laugh.

“What are you laughing at?” MacKenzie growls.

“How beat up your friend looks!” I burst out laughing.

Brittney and MacKenzie turn to Jayden, who looks away.

“She’s just fine.” MacKenzie says.

“Yeah! Look at the damage she did to your hand!” Brittney brags.

I look at my hand. Just a cut. At least it stopped bleeding.

I shrug, turn around, and start walking.

They don’t follow me.

My phone starts to vibrate.

It’s Wang Yuan.

I sigh.

Sometimes he can be so annoying. But other times, he’s the most protective person that ever lived.

“Where are you?! Your detention ended half an hour ago!” He starts to yell.

“Calm down! Mrs. Chang let me out late and then I bumped into Brittney, MacKenzie, and Jayden again!”

“What did they do? Do I have to-”

“Nothing at all! See you at home!” I say and hang up.

I keep walking, and suddenly trip.

My binder drops and all my papers fall out. AGAIN.

I groan.

“Do you need some help?” Two voices say in unison.
