Damaged Taekook
the steady blowing of the wind made its way through jungkook’s loosely styled hair, messing up the chestnut brown bangs hanging just over his stark eyebrows, giving him a youthful yet casual appearance. he wore a black button up shirt that he couldn’t be bothered to tuck all the way in, while carrying a sturdy dark brown briefcase with personal information, documents and some pills - treats-, as he would call them. his ears were adorned with all kinds of earrings, while what one could consider the tail of some mythical creature made its way down his wrist from underneath the shirt, circling his fingers and stopping in the middle of his palm. needless to say, he looked nothing like a doctor, the person the badge he carried was assigned to.
jungkook sighed while walking inside the huge unaesthetic building, silence filling his ears as he listened to the soft press of his heel against the stone floor.
“good morning, doctor jungkook”
a black haired lad appeared out of nowhere, dressed in all white, waving a wood clipboard in front of him.
“my name is yoongi and i will be guiding you through the building today, then i will be assigning you to your patients and you can take it up from there, is that alright?” he faked a smile.
“y-yes...s-sure” jungkook stuttered, still a little shaken up from the sudden appearance of this yoongi guy.
“for god’s sake stop stuttering already, you’re a doctor. christ” yoongi spat, leaving him dumbfounded by the sudden change of attitude.
yoongi started walking towards a dark hallway and one by one, guards and nurses started flooding the once empty building. his heel pressed harshly against the hard floor, making the loudest sound yet.
“believe it or not, i used to live here”, yoongi chuckled. “well, not live, but i’ve been assigned to the low-risk ward for a few months a while ago. i was kinda bipolar back then” he laughed bitterly.
back then, jungkook thought.
“nevertheless, i am all well now, and since i know this building like the back of my hand, they let me be an intern here. now i’m the one taking care of my friends here”
yoongi showed jungkook around the low-risk ward, which was only guarded at the two entrances in the big hallway. the patients were calm, sedated, jungkook made a note to himself.
after what seemed like hours passed by, the reached the old wing of the hospital, which was split in two smaller wings, the north one being for the “test subjects” as the papers read, and the south wing for the “dangerous, irreparable subjects of St. Mary’s Home For The Mentally Troubled”.
despite looking like a freshman in highschool, jeon jungkook was one of the brightest minds korea had to offer at the moment, his treatments never failing, and his methods of coping with whatever thought troubled any patient working incredibly well, he was truly a gem for this psychiatric hospital.
no one, not even his parents, thought jungkook was going to leave eveything behind and move to seoul to seek treatments for the mentally ill. everyone thought he was going to become an artist, and a good one at that. but nonetheless, jungkook’s parents always supported him and from the moment he stepped foot into his first class in med school onwards, his parents did everything they could to support his dream.
“authorization” one of the guards coldly stated, not even sparing jungkook a glance.
he was going to enter the right wing, where he would be assigned to his first patient, a “very dangerous subject”, as the paper stated. he knew all too well what he was getting himself into, but all he wanted to do was prove the system wrong and show everyone that even the worst of monsters have a chance at getting their little bit of humanity left back.
three guards mobilized, two on his each side and one behind him as he walked along the long corridor, looking around the glass sealed cells hugged by stainless steel doors with a code waiting to be typed in to free the beast beneath the glass.
the silence jungkook was already getting fond of was soon disturbed when yoongi came running into the corridor, stopping in front of jungkook and tiptoeing to whisper something in his ear.
“you forgot these” he whispered as he put a set of keys into jungkook’s shirt pocket. “he’s not the monster they say he is” was all yoongi said before he took a left and disappeared into the dark corridor he just came in running from.
jungkook sat there for a few seconds, trying to process what just happened, but as he felt the keys clinking in his pocket, yoongi’s words resonated in his ears.
he’s not the monster they say he is.
jungkook turned around, facing the last cell on the long corridor, reading the tag to see if it matches the one he’s been assigned to.
