Chapter 1

Following a tranquil evening stroll, I chose to return home as the darkness had deepened and a light drizzle began to fall. I picked up my pace, darting homeward, and managed to reach just in the nick of time. The household was enveloped in slumber, so I ascended to my window and slipped inside.

“Ronnie! Where the hell were you?” Sage yells out. God what the hell?

“Ah! Sage, what the fûck? How did- nevermind.” What the hell is she doing in my room? Sisters are so annoying. But i still love her.

“Where were you Ronnie?” She asks.

“I was just on a late night walk..” I answer before adding, “Why aren’t in your room?”

“Dad’s in there. He’s drunk again, and I don’t wan to sleep in there. He’s sleeping on the floor.”

“Oh, uh what about your boyfriend?” I sit down on my bed next to her and start shaking my leg.

“What about him?” She answers.

“Have you even tried to reach to him? Um, maybe he could let you stay at his place for a while.”

“But I don’t want to leave you here! And I don’t want to bother him, it’s 3 in the morning Ronnie..”

“I know Sage, I know. But maybe it’s better if you stay with him than here. You’ll be safe there. I’ll call him okay? Stay here.” I get up and walk towards my window to call Halland, my sister’s boyfriend and also my best friend. Kind of weird but at least it’s not awkward.

I start calling Holland and thank god he picked up.

Holland yawns, “What can you possibly be calling me about at 3 in the morning Ronnie?” Damn he sounded annoyed.

“Can my sister stay with you for a while?”

“What why? What happened? Is everything okay? You guys are okay, right?”

“Yes, we’re fine.. it’s just, yknow, a lot safer if she stayed at your place than staying here.”

“Yeah, yeah of course. She can stay here with me for as long as she wants to.”

“Alright, can you come pick her up?”

“Wh- wait like now?”

“Yes now!”

“O-oh, yeah of course i’ll be right there.”

Holland hangs up the phone and I turn to my sister. She does seem a little concerned.

“Ronnie..” Goddammit. I walk closer to Sage and sit right beside her.

“Hey, Sage, there’s not need to cry alright? You’ll be safe with Holland. Plus, he’s your boyfriend, and my best friend. We both trust him. Please don’t cry Sage.”

A few minutes later, Holland arrived.

“He’s here Sage.”

“Are you sure you’ll be okay..?” She faintly smiles but then it turned into a huge frown.

“Yes Sage, I’ll be fine okay? I can handle them. Don’t worry.”

“Are you positive?”

“Yes, I’m completely positive. Now go..”

Sage gave me a pity hug before making her grand escape. She's trying to appear remorseful, but who are we kidding? It's not on her. I stand there, watching her hop into Holland's car like she's won the lottery. As they disappear into the distance, I theatrically place my hand on the window and whisper sweet nothings to myself.

“I’ll be fine Sage, I promise you.”

In the morning, I prepare myself and unlock the door. As I venture to set foot outside, my father gruffly forces me back inside.

“What the hell dad?”

My father slaps the hell out of my cheek. “Where is Sage?” He grumbled.

“None of your concern.” I emotionally answer him. I try leaving the path, but my father pushed me harder making me fall to the ground.

“You know what happens when you try to fûck with me like that.”
