Episode 4

As Khalil was waiting for Elyse at their living room, he couldn’t stop staring at the picture of Elyse and her family. Her mother has a dark brown hair and blue eyes while her father is blonde and hazel eyes.

He was quite confused. Elyse has black hair and light brown eyes, her appearance was nowhere close to her parents either. Khalil couldn’t help but think that Elyse is proabably an—

“Mr. Herdioz.”

Khalil snapped out of it and turned to the voice that called him. It was Elyse. She’s now wearing an oversized plain black shirt tucked to a high waisted denim shorts. Though what she’s wearing is simple and casual, she still looked elegant and gorgeous in it.

“Sorry to keep you waiting.” She apologized formally as she went closer to Khalil.

“It’s fine.” Khalil responded as he stood up from the sofa. Elyse started to guide him to his study and Khalil followed quietly.

Khalil was quite surprised as she was looking at Elyse while following her.

She’s so small.

Khalil thought as he compared their size while Elyse was guiding him to her study. Their house is really big and spacious, it’s elegant and simple at the same time.

As they reached Elyse’s study, Khalil immediately explored the room with his eyes. He can only say one thing;

There’s a lot of books.

Has she read all of this?

“I’m sorry if the books bother you, I read a lot.” Elyse explained as she guided Khalil to a seat.

“I didn’t expect that you really loved reading to the point that you have your study almost filled with books.” Khalil responded and sat to the seat she guided him to sit. It’s either a compliment or a sarcasm.

“It’s one of my therapy. Reading, I mean.”

Khalil turned to Elyse then stared at her intently. Therapy? For what?

“Uhm, well, what do you want to talk about, Mr. Herdioz?” Elyse questioned as she tried to change the subject. She just realized that she was giving too much information about her.

Khalil immediately noticed how she changed the subject so he didn’t bother to ask his curiosity away. He also got straight to the point.

“Let’s talk about our marriage.” Khalil straightforwardly said, leaving Elyse stunned.

“W-What?” Elyse blurted confusely. “What do you mean ‘our marriage’?”

“It’s just like I said, let’s talk about our marriage.” Khalil responded seriously with an expressionless look.

Elyse frowned at confusion and seriously stared at Khalil who’s also staring seriously at her.

“Didn’t I already cancel our engagement?” Elyse asked again but she was serious this time.

“You did.” Khalil answered seriously too. What he said made Elyse more confused.

“Then what do you meant by we should talk about our marriage?”

“I meant what I meant.” Khalil leaned on his seat then smirked. “Let’s talk about our marriage.”

“I’m asking you seriously, Mr. Herdioz—“

“I’m serious too, Elyse.”

Elyse was getting annoyed at Khalil. She couldn’t understand what he was doing right now. Didn’t he not like her?

“So you want us to marry?” Elyse looked at Khalil seriously. She wasn’t planning on being too friendly anymore.

“I believe you’re getting it wrong.” Khalil went closer to Elyse while smirking. “Isn’t it your mother who wanted this?”

“Or should I also include you?”

Elyse frowned, not getting what he meant. “What are you talking about?”

“Listen, Ms. Sarcosta,” Khalil started coldly. “Your company, or should I say your mother wanted an engagement for the partnership of our companies— a trial engagement.”

“What do you—“

“It’s kind of unfair and humiliating for me that you’re the only one who had the consent wether to cancel it or not—“

“Oh god, I’m so sorry!”

Khalil was stunned at Elyse’s sudden apologize.

“What?” Khalil asked confusely.

“I didn’t know! I’m very sorry! It’s understandable why you’re mad, i’ll immediately talk to my mother, I really am sorry, that was so rude of my mother—“

“You didn’t know?” Khalil blurted out as he was staring intensely at Elyse.

“I didn’t, i’m really sorry. I should’ve known better.” Elyse looked down from embarrassment.

He was stunned at the fact that Elyse wasn’t involved in it. Is that why she looked genuinely confused to what he was talking about? Khalil felt ashamed of himself.

He just misunderstood her twice!

She’s even the one apologizing to me! Even though I was the one who misunderstood her!

Khalil felt really mad at himself. He cursed himself to the core of his being. This why no one ever thought of knowing me, who would want to know a bastard like me? I’m a total jerk, a piece of shit.

I deserve no one.

Khalil stood up from his seat. “I’ll get going—“

“Wait!”

Khalil couldn’t look at Elyse. He just stood there, waiting for the next thing she’s going to say.

But he didn’t expect it.

“Aren’t we talking about our marriage?”

Khalil immediately turned to Elyse. He was confused.

“W-What?” Khalil questioned confusely as he frown from confusion.

“Let’s talk about our marriage. I feel really bad that my mother went to such childish terms to do that. That’s so unfair for you, so I won’t cancel the engagement anymore.” Elyse seriously said while staring intensely back at him.

“Are you serious? I just misunderstood you twice already. You aren’t even supposed to be sorry to me, it’s just right that you canceled our engagement—“

“So you dont want the marriage anymore?”

“No! I was just trying to get back at you since I thought you were part of that contract with my mother and that you just wanted to make fun of our company, since it’s a trial engagement you canceled the engagement fast.” Khalil explained feeling frustrated.

“But I just canceled it because I thought you hated the fact that you were forced to be engaged.” Elyse innocently explained. “Since you were thinking about stuff about me.”

“I know! And it’s really stupid of me to misunderstand everything. I’m such a bastard.”

“Hey, don’t say such thing to yourself, okay? Don’t put all the blame to yourself. My mother is also at fault since she’s the one who put us into this position, and it’s normal to misunderstand, that can’t be avoided.” Elyse scolded as she also stood. Khalil was speechless.

He just misunderstood her for the second time and even tried to get back at her, yet here she is, scolding him because he’s thinking that he did something wrong.

This woman..

He couldn’t understand her at all!

“Either way, I won’t cancel the engagement.”

“What? Why?” He asked confusely.

“Well, since it’s been full of misunderstandings, let’s start again.”
