The next morning, I awoke. I didn't want to do anything. My body felt sluggish and I had no real motivation for anything. I stayed in bed until the sun was at its peak in the sky. The afternoon had come, and so did another unwanted visitor.
I had heard a knock on the door and I reluctantly went to see who it was. I peaked through the curtains, and what I saw wasn't really unexpected. However it didn't change the fact that I was unprepared for his visit.
The moment I laid my eyes on the man, I could hear my mother telling me about the significance of my eyes and hair.
The signature Argent look. Silver hair, with eyes of emerald. With the traits, a child of the Argent family could inherit the family fortune and take over as the family head. As long as these traits our present, the only other needs would be, strong magic, and proof of lineage. For generations, the head of the family has had silver hair and emerald eyes.
I reminisce the fond memory for a moment before snapping back to reality. Would I be considered a threat to him with this hair of mine? He doesn't know how I look like... I let mana flow throughout my body, just like Al taught me before. Transformation magic, the kid would use it to change into animals and run around town to cause trouble.
I ran to my parents' room to check the mirror. I now had brown hair that matched my brother's. I could hear the light knocking on the door again. I hurry to Al's room, to wake him up.
"Al...! Wake up!"
"What..." He wakes up, looking tired and drained of all his energy. His eyes widen, as soon as he sees me. "Mireille? That you?"
Al sat up confused. "Why-"
"Al, listen. I've had brown hair since the day I was born. My hair is naturally like mother's. Alright? That's the story."
The rapping on the door got louder. Alfred looked me in the eyes, confirming his worries I nodded. That man is here.
Jumping out of bed, Al headed straight for the door. It was at this time that I saw a whole new side to my brother. My brother opened the door.
"Uncle...?!" He gasped, feigning surprise. And then he smiled the most charismatic smile. Call it angelic if you want. "What brings you here...?"
"Alfred, I'm very sorry... But sadly your parents have passed away."
With a single grimace, I realize that Alfred is no longer acting. Even though he continued to spout lies. "Mother, and father..."
I would continue to watch but I had some other things to take care of. As quietly as I could, I crept back into Alfred's room. I had to get the wills and dispose of mother's letter. Of course since I'm only four my parents never taught me anything other than basic magic. But I can definitely burn a few letters with what I have learned.
With a single movement I burn the letter, not even leaving ashes behind.
"Mireille!"
I hear Al call me from the front door. "Coming!" Tch. I still need to get our family's insignia and the beast taming flute.
I walk out to the front door and smile. "Al, who's this?" I ask, cocking my head a little to my right. I glance at the man who is our uncle.
"This our uncle. He's come to bring us to the Argent Estate. Uncle, this is my sister, Mireille." Alfred said bluntly.
"Yes, nice to meet you. My name is Claude D'Argent, I've brought a few of my servants to help you pack. You can just take what you need, or whatever you want to take." With a swift hand motion some servants came flooding in.
They went through all the rooms as if searching for something. "Who allowed mere servants to come into our home and go through out rooms?" Al threatened.
All the servants seemed to stop in their tracks. Wow~ Who knew this little kid could be so frightening when he actually acted like a rich kid. One servant bowed to Alfred.
"By all means young lord, we are simply doing as his grace instructed us. We are helping you and the young lady to pack the essentials needed for the trip to the Argent Estate."
"And why would a lowly servant know what we'd like to bring back to the Argent Estate?" Again. wOw~ Who knew a eight year old could sound so threatening, because at this time. All the servants and began to kneel before Alfred. Deciding to alleviate the situation a little I smile and turn to our beloved uncle and speak.
"I think that Al and I should gather our own things as well." I pout a little bit, I'm you gotta maximize the effects of the stupidly cute look while you can.
"Oh? And why is that?" The man smiled as he crouched down to my level, slightly inconvenienced.
I walked up to him, cupping my hands to his ear. "Well, uncle. The reasoning is quite simple, mother has things in her room that she wishes for no one to see!" I whisper.
Suddenly interested, our dear uncle gripped my shoulders rather tightly. "What could that be?"
"Well I'm not sure if it's appropriate for me to say it..." I whimpered.
"Don't worry. I'm your family, I'm sure you can tell me."
This bastard who's clearly after the Argent insignia and the beast taming flute, simply smiled like he was deceiving a child with some candy.
"Well..." I cupped my hands up to his ear once more, "mother keeps her undergarments in her room, and I believe that it's quite rude to have men going through mother's things!" I take a step back, balancing myself on my heels.
"Besides mother said that a gentleman would never forcefully enter a ladies room without permission!" I exclaim, putting my hands on my hips.
"Ahem." He cleared his throat, with slight signs of blush upon his cheeks. "I suppose you're right, now Mireille, why don't you go get whatever you'd like to bring to the Argent Estate."
With another gesture, all the servants were retreating to the outside of the building. I stare at the bastard. This man better not be having lewd thoughts of my mother. I'll kick you in the fucking balls you piece of shit.
I turn to Al, cuing with my eyes. "Al, let's go."
Al and I return to each of our respective rooms, falsely gathering things that we wanted to bring to the estate. I don't have much to gather. I grab the lantern that I had bought for the Festival of Lights awhile ago. Grimacing as I held it in my hand. Refreshing my mind, I head back out to where the Archduke awaited. I smiled as I showed him the lantern.
"I'd like to take this to the estate, and also another thing." He nodded carefully, observing me as I retreated back into my parents' room. I crawl onto the stool of my mother vanity table, reaching for my mother jewelry box. I open the secret compartment holding the dimensional ring that held the insignia and beast taming flute. Coincidentally it also happen to be my mother's wedding ring.
I quickly took out my necklace, which was also a dimensional storage device, and slipped the ring into my necklace. After reconciling it beneath my clothes again I pick up the jewelry box and head back to wear Alfred and the Archduke were. Once I reach the front door, Al has already gathered whatever he wanted to take. I smile a naively childish smile, while presenting the jewelry box to Claude D'Argent. I've gotten everything I wanted to get!
His lips curved into a slight smirk. "Very well. Let's depart for the estate."
