"Ma'am, the cooperation with DanSun Company had not gone as planned. Mr. Sun wants to cancel the contract. He sent his secretary just now to send these papers. Mr. Sun wishes to talk it over dinner if you'd like. He requests to adjust some conditions in the contract.." my secretary said. I leaned back to my chair in distress and closed my eyes. I took a deep breath.
"What does this person want again?" I whispered under my breath. I opened my eyes and looked at my secretary. "Arrange the dinner with Mr. Sun.. Give me a copy of the contract. I'll go over it. Call Mr. Cruz, ask him to revise the contract for me later this evening.." I commanded.
"Yes, ma'am.. will that be all?" she asked.
"That.. will be all- Oh, can you get me a coffee as well?" I replied.
"Sure, ma'am.." She said as she left the room.
I continued reviewing the files sent by my secretary. Today, for some reason, is quite a hectic day. My Uncle Sam and Aunt Ria had left me in charge of the company since last year after I finished my college degree. Thankfully, I had been living a peaceful life with Nicholas. Well, the family business had kept me busy for quite some time.
I heard a soft knocking and after was the creaking sound of my office door. The bittersweet aroma of coffee enveloped the entire room as my secretary laid down a big pile of documents on my table.
"Here is your coffee, ma'am.. I have already called Mr. Cruz.. He said he'd send me an update this afternoon. I have also contacted Mr. Sun's secretary and sent him the address to the restaurant I have booked for tomorrow's meeting.." She said.
"Alright, Can you also contact the Lienen Fashion, I need a dress for the engagement party I will attend to next week.." I replied.
"Yes, ma'am." She answered. "Thank you.. You may go now." She nodded and left the room.
I was busy casting my signature and reviewing these papers all piled up in front of me. I massaged my shoulder and leaned back. I was about to take a nap when someone came knocking to my door again. I looked at my large glass windows and noticed it was already sunset. I turned to my desk clock and it is already 5pm. The door slowly opened and my secretary went in.
"I'm sorry to bother you ma'am, but Mr. Dawson called.. He asked me if you were okay.. Today's a pretty busy day but I think you should check your phone, ma'am.." she smiled.
"Alright, did he say anything more?" I asked.
"No, that is all ma'am." She smiled.
"Okay, you may leave.." I replied.
I was confused about what my secretary had just told me. I hurriedly searched for my phone. It was inside my bag piled under my things. I was shocked to see several missed calls and text messages from him. Did something happen? I thought. I was about to dial up his number when my phone suddenly rang.
"Nicholas.." I answered.
"Why didn't you answer my calls? Did something happen? I was so worried.. You know, I-"
"I was busy, Nicholas... Was there anything important you wanna talk about?" I replied.
"Oh.. Sorry, honey.. I-its nothing.. Come home when you're done with work okay?" He softly replied.
"Okay.. But I might come home late.. today too." I replied.
"It's okay.. But do you know what day is today?" He asked excitedly.
"Of course, Nicholas... It's Tuesday." I replied.
"Ah, yes.. Of course, It's Tuesday..I-I'll see you tonight honey.." He said. Did I say something wrong?
"Okay.." I turned to the door as it slowly opened.
"I love y-"
"Mr. Cruz is here ma'am. Shall I call him in?" My secretary came into my office. I nodded in reply and I hung up then returned my phone inside my bag. I quickly got up and fixed my clothes. A man in his 50's wearing a grey formal suit, carrying a black leather bag stood in front of the door.
"Thank you for coming, Mr. Cruz.." I greeted. Mr. Cruz has been our family lawyer. He was my father's closest friend.
"Pleasure is mine, Ms. Wil-.. Oh, forgive me.." He chuckled. "Mrs. Dawson.." I smiled.
"Please, have a seat.." I courteously offered.
"Thank you.." He replied as he sat down the sofa.
We started off discussing with the issues regarding the Mr. Sun's request. Everything went smoothly and we intently discussed more issues with new contracts for future cooperations and collaborations of target companies.
Mr. Cruz is certainly a capable man. I remember my father praising this man when I was still a child. They were still quite young back then. My father always talked about his good friend from highschool. He always told me that I could always ask for Mr. Cruz's help regarding any matter especially with company issues. He was certainly the person who helped me adjust to the company regulations. Aside from my Uncle Sam and Aunt Ria, Mr. Cruz was someone I could hive my full trust.
We were too immersed discussing and exchanging ideas. I turned to my office windows and noticed it was already dark outside. I check the time with my wrist watch and it was already 8pm.
"My secretary have already booked a table at a restaurant.. It'd be nice if we could continue our conversation over dinner.." I suggested. He lifted his wrist to view the time.
"Sure, sure.." He said as he looked at his wrist watch.
"Oh, did you have somewhere to go, Mr. Cruz? We could just finish this next time.." I asked.
"It's okay.. I'll just called my client to move our meeting tomorrow." He replied.
"Oh.. If he or she doesn't mind.. How about let this client join us for dinner? I can't stay too long anyway.." I suggested.
"Okay.. That'll do. Thank you for you kindness, Mrs. Dawson.." He smiled.
"Shall we?" I asked as I stood up and took my bag.
We arrived at the restaurant my secretary had booked. We had a little chat after ordering from the waiter. Did I forget to mention that Mr. Cruz always came by our house since I was a baby? Mr. Cruz was basically my Godfather. I remember playing with him as a child at the back of our house. When my parents had pass away, it wasn't just my Uncle Sam and Aunt Ria who had my back. He had been pushing me to reach my goals in life and had supported my choices. He was father-like figure to me.
"I missed having dinner with you, Uncle Hubert.." I chuckled. He smiled at me and replied. "That's because you grew so fast kid.. And if you really did, you should've invited me to have dinner at your house then.." We laughed.
Our dinner arrived and we continued to chat about anything we wanted to talk about besides company issues. We always talk about the company whenever we met. It was nice thing to do outside work.
"I'm sorry Uncle Hubert.. I really wanted to wait for your client to arrive first before leaving but its getting late.. I have some work to catch up on.. Can I leave first.. I really had a great time. We should have dinner again soon.." I said.
"Yeah.. Sure. Thank you for the dinner by the way.." He replied. I fixed my things and stood up.
"Oh, great timing.. Hello, Mr. Collins.." Uncle Hubert said.
"Good evening, Mr. Cruz.." a familiar manly voice replied.
No, it can't be..
"Long time no see.. Ms. Wilson."
