Chapter 4

Wildstar and Asley walked through the white wood framed screen door, stepping into a dusty and messy walkway. They walked down a short hallway through an open doorway right into a large kitchen.

“Honey! We have a guest!” Ashley shouted loudly as she took the flannel off around her waist.

Wildstar was looking around to observe everything. The walls were very ugly and dirty white and pink wallpaper with floral patterns. The floors were all tile everywhere, but whenever it changed rooms the tile was haphazard and uneven, like the rooms were separate and then mashed together. The kitchen was very large and open with cabinets everywhere, yet they all had a coat of dust on them.

Wildstar turned as another woman was walking into the kitchen. She was larger than both Ashley and Wildstar with quite muscular arms and thick thighs. She was wearing rubber gloves covered in black stuff, but she removed them as she stared at Wildstar.

“Who is this?” She asked.

“Their name is Wildstar. I found them out in the field asleep.” Ashley replied as she went to the other woman.

“How’d she get out here?” The woman asked.

She was stoic and straight to the point. It was as if she had something to hide.

“I’m not sure.” Wildstar said.

She tried her best to remember.

She was sitting in the center of the multiverse.

And then she was laying in the field.

“Well you should do your best to remember.” The woman sounded aggressive when Ashley quickly jumped in front of her. Ashley’ hands went to the woman’s shoulders.

“Hey…be nice. I think they’re one of us.” Ashley whispered.

The woman’s demeanor immediately changed to shock and surprise, but she quickly tried to look intimidating once again.

“I’m sorry, but I can go if needed. I am sort of…well…I don’t really remember too much.” Wildstar said, holding their head. They were lying, but there were a few things that they couldn’t remember.

“Would you like some music?” Ashley asked as she made her way over to a small radio sitting on the kitchen counter.

“I…sure.” Wildstar replied with a smile.

“She loves music. No matter your response she would play it.” The woman said with crossed arms, making her muscles look even larger.

If You Told Me To by Hunter Hayes began to play. Ashley jumped up and immediately ran to the other woman, grabbing her arms and trying to slow dance with her.

“Oh honey come on! It's our song!” Ashley said loudly as she kept trying to dance.

The other woman was very slowly beginning to give in as her hips swayed softly side to side. The two began to lovingly embrace and dance with each other, Wildstar standing to the side and watching as they crossed their arms.

The only sound was the music playing and Ashley softly singing along with a heavenly voice. Wildstar continued to watch as she stepped back, standing right in the doorway.

Wildstar kept watching with a soft smile.

Everything seemed peaceful and nice. It was warm, inviting, and loving.

Ashley and the woman moved their heads so that they were locking eyes. They both smiled and leaned in, their lips softly kissing.

Wildstar turned, feeling as if they were being watched.

They walked towards the screen door as the song was close to ending.

Across the street, the wheat and grass were all blowing to the right from some strong wind.

A few of the patches were suddenly standing upright or even being moved to go the other direction. A few spots had small holes open up before shutting behind them. Wildstar continued to watch on as the wheat and grass continued to do strange things. Their arm began to glow with the rings, one of them spinning before they held their hand out. A subtle red beam fired to seal the door perfectly shut, so nothing could get through.

After it was sealed, Wildstar quickly walked back into the kitchen just as the song ended.

“We need to…”

Thousands of bullets all of a sudden began to fly rapidly as all three people dropped to the floor.

“They found us!” Ashley screamed, the other woman holding her down to the tile floor.

Wildstar looked forward and could see all of the dust and rubble flying through the air. The radio suddenly exploded and pieces flew high into the air. Every piece kept becoming even smaller and smaller as bullets smashed into them, making the metal become as small as specks of dust. The gunfire was deafening, sounding like bombs being smashed together over and over. The gunfire was unrelenting, the wall disappearing more and more as the bullets kept firing through.

The other woman began to crawl towards Wildstar, their arms being covered in dust and dirt as she crawled. The woman grabbed Wildstar and pulled them towards Ashley.

Ashley was crawling towards the wall as the woman panicked.

“Ashley! What are you doing?” She shouted.

Ashley opened the cabinets under the sink and grabbed hold of the pipe. Her eyes suddenly began to glow a dark blue shade as Wildstar stared confused.

The entire ground began to shift. The tile floors were cracking and breaking as the metal pipe was expanding and buckling all over. The pipe broke and was exposed as the floor was blown away, yet the water continued to move straight from one pipe into the other.

Wildstar could feel the ground shaking even more violently. It was like an earthquake was happening.

The gunfire suddenly stopped completely.

The only sound was the ground shifting.

Then a massive rumble that sounded like thunder boomed out.

Wildstar jumped up to stare through the mostly disintegrated wall, watching the Earth outside be ripped apart in multiple places. Water was shooting out in a violent geyser that then came raining down quite violently.

Ashley’s eyes stopped fading as she collapsed onto the floor. Her body was suddenly incredibly thin, like a skeleton with only the smallest amount of fat or muscle.

“Ashley!” The woman screamed and ran over, lifting her up.

Ashley’s eyes were no longer glowing and were barely open.

The woman lifted Ashley up and sat her on the destroyed counter top, throwing every cabinet door off no matter how intact they were. Every single cabinet was packed to the brim with food, but most of the cans and bags were disintegrated with crumbs and pieces of food spilling everywhere.

She quickly grabbed a mostly intact bag of chips and forcefully put them in Wildstar’s hands.

“Feed her these! Now!” The woman said as she quickly ran to the freezer, throwing out multiple large pieces of meat wrapped nicely and vacuum sealed in plastic.

Wildstar ran to Ashley and was shoving handful after handful of chips into her mouth. Ashley was weakly chewing but swallowing them quickly.

Wildstar turned to look at the other woman.

The plastic was all ripped apart and thrown all over the place. She was holding a bunch of steaks in a pile with her two hands. Her eyes were glowing orange and red as the meat seemed to be cooking right then and there, the bottom cooking while the heat was traveling through and to the top. Every piece seemed to be cooking close to the same level before her eyes suddenly stopped and she ran over, pushing Wildstar out of the way.

She took a piece of steak and shoved it into Ashley’s mouth.

Wildstar noticed that the woman was looking less muscular than earlier.

Meanwhile, Ashley’s body was very quickly beginning to increase in mass as she ate more and more. Every part of her body grew larger and back to the proportions she had, making her look just as she did before.

“We need to get out of here right now. We aren’t safe here.” The woman said as she picked up Ashley, who was still tired and weak despite looking much better.

“Where are we going?” Wildstar asked as they quickly made their way to the door. The woman kicked the sealed door off the hinges, shattering it as the pieces flew onto the ground.

Outside, the ground was uneven and spit open with metal pipes sticking out like roots, water firing out all over the place.

Bodies dressed head to toe in high tech armor were phasing in and out from visible to invisible.

Wildstar spotted one of them getting to their feet.

They slowly lifted their arm as the four golden rings appeared, all of them spinning quickly before a ball of blue energy fired out and hit the phasing body, which exploded into a bursting bubble of blood and guts.

“Holy shit!” The woman said as she turned to see the body explode. She looked at Wildstar’s arm to see the four rings.

“Well let’s go!”

The woman ran to a seemingly empty spot, but then grabbed the air which folded and bent. She pulled off a large sheet that was sitting over a white van that seemed to just appear. The sheet laid on the ground and disappeared, like it was invisible but hiding whatever it needed to hide.

“What the…” Wildstar started.

They turned to see the woman already in the driver’s seat and Ashley curled up in the passenger seat.

“Hurry up and get in the back!” The woman said as she was already starting the van. Wildstar barely had time to open the doors before the van began to drive off. Wildstar grabbed hold of the door and pulled herself into the empty back section, a single clean mattress pressed against the wall.

“Where are we going?” Wildstar asked as they shut the doors and crawled towards the front two seats.

“To one of the Havens. We aren’t safe anywhere else.” She said.

Wildstar sat behind the woman’s seat, leaning back before looking at their arm. The golden rings continued to float and slowly spin at different rates and directions. They kept staring, trying to figure out what she was supposed to do.
