The first time Jeongguk knew about the raffle, he was hesitant. He didn’t even know if he’ll be able to talk to a total stranger.
Will I be able to make a conversation? Will I be able to make the person feel comfortable when I’m an awkward and shy person myself? Will I be able to even say hi?! His worries were eating him when Namjoon saw him.
“I heard about the lottery and a date with you is the price.” Jeongguk nodded. “You do believe in destiny and such so maybe you’ll meet her there?” Namjoon said smiling.
“I don’t know hyung...” Jeongguk replied looking at the floor, massaging the back of his neck.
Namjoon walked closer to him then patted his shoulder, “If you are not comfortable. You can always say no, Gukkie.”
He looked at Namjoon who was looking intently at him. Still unsure, he replied, “Thank you, hyung.” Namjoon left.
Jeongguk was brought back to where he actually was when he heard the announcement on the speaker. The flight he was waiting for already landed.
Finally. He inhaled then exhaled deep when he saw people coming out little by little. He was so nervous. He didn’t even know why he decided to fetch this girl he’s meeting for the first time. But it didn’t feel wrong either. It just came to him that he wanted this “date” to be perfect for the both of them.
Maybe because he wasn’t on a date for so long? Because he doesn’t want her to be disappointed? Or he just simply wants this one day to be perfect?
He shook his head to clear his mind then held the banner he did for this girl to see. Few more people coming out then a girl caught his eye. A girl wearing a black sando over denim jacket, partnered with black skinny jeans, a pair of Timbs, and a LY cream-colored cap. She was pulling her luggage behind her when Jeongguk noticed she saw the banner.
“Am I looking at my girl version?! ” He exclaimed to himself.
She was getting closer and closer and as she took every step, Jeongguk can feel the kind of excitement and nervousness he hadn’t felt in a long time. Was that butterflies in his stomach? He couldn’t even tell.
When she arrived in front of Jeongguk, he automatically smiled as if he knew her. The feeling was comforting and easy. He knew she saw his smile through his eyes. She smiled back and Jeongguk’s heart, for the first time in forever, was in chaos.
Yeppeone (Beautiful). That’s what he thought.
“Annyeonghaseyo Jeongguk-ssi. I’m Y/N! Nice to meet you!” She bowed down to give her greetings. Jeongguk placed the banner he was holding down to return the greetings as well.
“Annyeonghaseyo y/n noo...” There was hesitation in his voice.
Is she older than me? But she looks young. He thought. She may have felt the hesitation in his voice so the girl nodded with assurance signaling him it’s okay to call her noona.
“---na...” he continued with a soft chuckle shyly putting his hand at the back of his neck. Y/N giggled at his antics but the youngest had no idea why. It was a big wonder but he didn’t mind. All inside his mind was, “She’s so cute.”
An awkward silence followed. No one dared to speak but Jeongguk can’t blame her. He’s a stranger to her. He was panicking inside when she finally said shyly – almost a whisper, “You didn’t really have to fetch me, Mr. Jeon.”
All that Jeongguk wanted was to make her feel comfortable. He wanted her to feel at home and he wanted them to be friends. He tried his best to make everything sound normal even if he himself were stuttering because of nervousness.
“Please, don’t call me Mr. Jeon or Jeongguk-ssi. You’re noona after all. You can call me Gukkie or Jeonggukkie or Guk or JK. It’s totally fine. I’ll take your bag, if it’s okay with you, noona?” He said already walking behind her ready to get his luggage off her hands.
“Okay!” Y/N smiled sweetly at him. His heart melted. He hid his soft smile and thanked his face masks for hiding the involuntary smiles coming out.
He got his noona’s bag then led her to the parking area where he left his car. It was a silent walk going there but it was starting to be a comfortable type of silence rather than the one they shared earlier.
Y/n noona must have felt a little more comfortable with me already. Jeongguk told himself - feeling a little proud.
Once they arrived at the car, he opened the trunk then put her bag there. Being a real gentleman, he ran towards the passenger seat then opened the door for his guest. She got in. After he made sure he closed the door, he moved onto the other side opening his side of the seat then hopped in.
“Noona don’t forget your seatbelt.” Jeongguk said looking intently at Y/N. As he removed his face mask revealing his famous bunny smile behind it, he saw her face all surprised. Her mouth automatically fell open and he can’t help but laughed at it. He saw it as a perfect opportunity to tease her.
“So... this is how Jungshookt looked like in real life?” Jeongguk burst out a loud laugh looking at Y/N. The laugh that echoed through the entire car and the one that only comes out when he’s with the people he loves.
It was a quiet drive going to the hotel but not the weird and awkward kind of quiet. It was the kind of silence where Jeongguk felt comfortable and at ease. Something he rarely feels with people whom he meets for the first time. It was a new kind of feeling but it wasn’t bad. It was nice, actually. When they arrived at the hotel, Jeongguk made sure he walked y/n to her room. Just to be sure she won’t be lost or anything.
“Here is your room, noona. Rest well! We will have a lot of fun tomorrow and I hope you will like it!” He said excitedly while handing you your luggage.
“Thank you for taking some time off just to fetch me at the airport. I really appreciate it, MAK-NAE!” Jeongguk’s smile disappeared when he figured out y/n was teasing her to get back to what he did earlier. He looked at her with eyebrows pinched together, eyes squinting, mouth pouting.
“Ya noona! Wae?! Ahh.. Jinjja… Maknae aniya! Naneun namjaya! (Hey noona! Ahh… Seriously?! I’m not a maknae! I’m a man!) ” He protested almost losing it. Y/n laughed even louder, eyes turning to like a crescent moon and no matter how pissed he wanted to be at her, her laughter that echoed the hallway washed everything away. He decided to keep playing annoyed though.
“Arasseo… Mak… (Understood… Mak…) ” she purposely stopped anticipating his next reaction. His death stare was as clear as the day, “Jeonggukki-neun i-mi namjaya. Gwenchanha? (Jeonggukkie is already a man. Fine?) ” she held a thumbs-up while laughing.
Jeongguk nodded, expression changed that instant. From being mad to laughing with her. “Get inside, noona. Goodnight! See you! I will pick you up tomorrow at 7am!”
She waved goodbye, “Thanks again! See you tomorrow! Drive safely!” Jeongguk left the hotel with a big smile on his face, excited to see what awaits both of them the next day.
