Ms. Irresistible
Diana Luisa J. Stewart has been writing since she could, well, write. The only difference? She does it for a living in Brooklyn now, right from her little apartment. Romance, Sci-fi, History, you name it! But she’s gotten a recent writers block, so she turns to her closest friend circle. Her messenger group, “Randos.”
The group had been her best friends for years. They met at a cafe, and all five clicked. But they lived hundreds of miles apart, and now text to communicate.
This group of confidants are composed of Marcos Flinch, a police officer in London, Maria Whells, a vineyard worker in Boston,
Bradley Cooper, a news reporter based in Southeast Asia, and Jonathan Blanche, an architect based in Australia. Little did she know at that time, they each were interested in becoming more than friends.
“Brrr! Brrr!” Diana’s phone buzzed, as it vibrated against her wooden desk. Startled, she threw it across the room, with a loud “THUD!” coming with it. She scrambled to get a hold of it. It was a group call with her friends, so she got to here desk, fixed her hair, and joined the call.
“Finally!” Bradley sighed in relief. “What’s with the ‘joy?’” “Oh! We have a surprise for you\~” Maria said, clearly quite excited. “And that is?” “Well, we know it’s your 30th birthday in about two and a half weeks...” Jonathan continued. “...And?” “THE FOUR OF US ARE GOING TO GO TO BROOKLYN FOR THE NEXT TWO WEEKS TO HANGOUT FOR YOUR BIG 3-0!” Marcos explained, with such volume and speed that he sounded like a really nervous giant. And he should be nervous. This was, after all, the first time they would meet, in person, in ten years.
“What!? No way!” “Yes way!” Maria said, literally jumping in her seat. They started discussing details. But before they knew it, it had become dinnertime already. “Dang, it got late too quickly!” “Not for me!” Brad said, pointing out that it was by then 7 AM for him. They each signed off, and went along with their lives. Except, most of them weren’t thinking about something, more of someone.
“Are we really doing this?” Maria asked, before getting in her car in order to get there more conviniently, talking to the people in the call, which was everyone except Diana. “Of course, we can’t let her down.” Brad said, but he was also reading about amazing places to go to with someone special. Down under, John was calling to make dinner reservations while he muted his mike. And Mark was frantically searching for his notepad, in which he wrote down places where Diana hadn’t been, so he could surprise her. Each were planning on how to express their feelings for Diana, not knowing that’s what the others were planning.
They all took a deep breath, looked up at the sky, and asked themselves, “Am I really doing this?” And with that, they headed to the Brooklyn part of The Big Apple.
