“Something good better have happened yesterday…You didn’t come over,” Jungkook pouted disapprovingly when he approached your locker the next day.
“I told you Soomin was coming over,” you raised an eyebrow and sent him a knowing look. Sighing in exasperation, he leaned against the locker beside yours.
“And?”
“Hey, I can’t tell you! It’s girl talk,” You closed your locker and crossed your arms over your chest.
“Since when do you care about girl talk? You tell me everything,” Jungkook deadpanned.
“Since I’ve made a friend who was a girl. That means I have to stick to girl code,” You turned away from him to walk toward your next class.
Trailing behind you, he persisted, “Can you at least tell me if I have a chance?”
Turning to give your best friend a sweet smile, you patted his cheek lovingly. “I think you do.” Cheeks reddening at your words, he turned his head to roll his eyes.
“So that’s a no.”
“Hey, it takes time! I’m not a five star matchmaker overnight, you know?” You wagged a finger at him.
“Would you keep your voice down please?” Jungkook looked around just in case any body heard you.
“Alright alright,” You turned back around to continue to class.
Weeks flew by and your plan had finally worked to the point where Jungkook was actually conversing with the girl. She sat with you at lunch and, at first, it was awkward due to the fact that Jungkook mainly spent the period staring at his lunch, only listening in on Soomin and your conversations. However, after a while of giving him confidence and persuading him, he finally began to engage in conversations more frequently to the point where they’d forgotten all about you.
Normally you’d glare at your best friend for his rudeness but you saw how happy he was; the way his eyes twinkled with infatuation with the girl across the table with him. You were happy for your best friend. Like you should’ve been…right?
“Jungkook asked me out today,” Soomin mumbled under her breath while you two were searching through the bookcases in the library for some information on your latest history assignment.
“He what!?” You nearly shrieked, causing the nearby librarian to shush you with a scowl. Looking away in embarrassment, you turned back to Soomin and whispered, “He what?”
“I know,” she laughed to herself as if the whole thing was bizarre, “He just came up to me and asked me out.”
“And?” You pressed, leaning in as if this was the most valuable information you’d ever gotten.
“I said yes.” You jumped up in glee. Before you could reply she tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, “…under one condition.”
“And what’s that?” You furrowed your eyebrows in confusion.
“That you’d come with your own date?” She winced, waiting for your outburst. You blinked as the words processed in your mind.
Widening your eyes in horror, you spoke in a hushed tone, “Soomin! Why on earth would you say that? Sending his best friend on a double date with him?”
“I know! I’m sorry, really! It just, sort of, slipped out! It’s just…you know we’ve gotten close but I still don’t know Jungkook as well as I’d like to but if you were there, maybe you can make sure the date goes well?”
Sighing at her begging demeanor, you nodded. “Of course, I’ll go…but I don’t have a date,” You stated, flatly.
“I might’ve found one for you. He’s really sweet, believe me. I’ve known him for a while and he really likes you,” She reassured with a smile.
Pondering over the thought, deeply, you watched as Soomin gnawed at her lip, waiting for your answer.
“…Is he cute?”
Sighing in relief at your question, she linked arms with yours, “I think so.”
