Episode 4 - A light in the dark

After learning what I could about this fantasy world, my heart sank in my chest. Not only was I super weak, but from what I had gathered, even normal humans have at least 50MP. I had no affinity to the four elements and being isolated in this barren wasteland wasn't much help. Even though I had many more questions about where I was (as any normal person would), every time I tried to contact the call and response system it would simply reply with a half-assed answer that went somewhere along the lines of "For more information, please use skill 'Hear the voice of God'." Although every time I tried to use the skill, I found out that 'God is busy'.

Taking a deep sigh, I collapsed to the ground. Lying down with my back against the cold, dry floor, with my legs and arms sprawled out around me, my eyes drift to the blazing sky. So much has happened in such a small amount of time. I wonder if life has always been like this. Even though this situation isn't very favorable, maybe it wouldn't be so bad to experience something different every once in a while. Thinking back on my previous life, I guess it always felt like life was always going by too quickly. In the blink of an eye, I was already an adult. An adult who became too dependant on others. An adult who wasn't able to really make her own desitions. Look at me now. I don't have the faintest idea of what to do. As always, I'm just wasting away like I always have.

I raised a hand to shield my face from the stinging rays of the sun. A slight wind had started to blow since my arrival in this world and the breeze was picking up strands of my hair, tossing them playfully around my face. Small clouds of sand floated around, making their way across the desert at a leisurely pace. Everything was moving peacefully as if I had never come in the first place. Among the barren desert, I was the only thing that didn't feel alive.

"I guess I should get moving too."

Picking myself up from the ground, my arms felt as heavy as lead and as I began walking, my feet began carelessly dragging behind me as if the body I was inhabiting had undergone a huge strain. Every step I took towards that distant sand dune felt more and more burdensome, but the thought of finding somewhere safe to spend the night kept me going. If anything, that was the only goal I had set for the day and I was planning on succeeding.

As the top of the sand dune started coming into view, I was ecstatic. I have never felt so tired in my life. With an extra push of hope, I began climbing up faster in an act of desperation because as I was walking, I realized that if I didn't find a place to sleep, I'd either get eaten by a magical beast or freeze during the night. (Nights in the desert are known for being unusually cold).

"FINALLY!" I yelled out in uncontrollable happiness as I reached the top. Smiling widely, I looked at my surroundings for what seemed like the first time in a while. As my eyes scanned the area, all I could see was more sand and dry land, slowly being basked in deep golden light from the setting sun. I stood there, simply looking, for the longest time.

"IS ANYONE THERE?" I screamed at the desert. My voice was drowned out by a long howl coming from somewhere in the distance. "I guess I'll take that as a no." Taking one last glance, from what I could see, there were a few lights flickering into view from behind another sand dune. Thankfully, it didn't seem like it would take too long to get there. With a new goal in mind, my feet felt lighter than ever as I ran as fast as I could towards the warm bright light.
