Chapter 1 : He is in my pocket

“Cold.. It's too cold”, Lu Xinyi gripped the bedsheets and buried herself beneath it. She knew it was a nightmare but it felt too real that she felt a lingering fear. “No.. No.. I don’t want to..”, she mumbled.

“You definitely do want to..”, she doesn’t even remember how that voice sounded anymore but the illusion made her tremble with fear.

“NO”, she shouted as she woke up from sleep. She immediately turned on the lights.

She took a deep breath and tried to calm herself down as a couple of tears trickled down her face. “It's fine, It's fine. I’m fine.. I’ve already moved on..”, she mumbled to herself as she looked at the time on her phone. It was 3 am in the morning. She plugged in her headphones and visited her most visited super topic in weibo. She was already a top fan on that topic. It was the super topic of her favourite male idol Yu Shiqi.

After a while of browsing through the posts, she felt her eyes tearing up at her idol’s gentleness, humility, hard work and professionalism. She found herself smiling at the phone, completely forgetting the nightmare. She turned off the lights and plugged the earphones out and let the video play on speakers.

She started to slowly drift into sleep. She had a plane to catch for work tomorrow morning. She couldn’t afford to miss the flight.

As she slowly fell asleep, her idol’s voice still echoed in her ears and she finally had a dreamless, peaceful sleep.

Next Morning

The alarm rang at 5:30 a.m and she immediately woke up. She looked at her phone and her battery was hanging onto its last breath. She facepalmed. It was nice listening to her idol before going to sleep, but she has to travel today! And her battery is already dying.

She immediately plugged in her charger and ran to the bathroom to wash up. She was never one to care about her looks. Anyway she had no plans on marriage for the rest of her life, if she ever married that would be to satisfy her mom’s wish. But you can’t rule out the possibility that she loved someone before, she had her fair experience in first love, but that is a story for another time.

She took a bath and pulled her hair into a loose bun. She wore a brown professional suit and toasted a couple of breads for her before sitting on the dining table to have her breakfast.

She looked at the time and it was just 6 am. Her flight was at 9 am so she still had some time. She opened her laptop to check if she had any mail. Just as she expected, she had a couple of mails enquiring about her schedule for the next couple of days on the business trip.

She is 25 this year and is already a leading Product Manager in her company. She had three people reporting to her and 4 products that she was maintaining. Simply put, she was a big shot in her company.

Once she replied to all the formal emails, she switched her tab and entered her weibo account. This was another routine for her. She chose a gif of her idol pouting, “cute”, she smiled to herself and made a post,

fish in land : My fellow fishes, good morning~ This fish has to travel for the next couple of days, so keep me updated if there’s any new news about our idol. [attached gif]

Lu Xinyi’s weibo account name is fish in land and their fandom name is fishes. As she was a top fan, she had a lot of followers. The reason why she had so many followers was not because she does amazing fanarts or edits or updates. Her account was quite common but she was an avid fan who would never forget to make her presence known everyday and she has defended her idol through thick and thin for 7 years now.

In the world where everyone’s preferences kept changing, she was one of those rare fans who you can always count on to support and cheer on her idol. And she was mysterious too. She never revealed her real name or whereabouts to anyone.

In a matter of time, her post received a lot of comments.

Did my idol post today? : jiejie don’t worry, we will keep you updated.

Just a happy fish : jiejie, safe travels. We will keep Yu Shiqi safe for the next couple of days.

- she laughed out at the comment and immediately replied

fish in land : No need, I’ll keep him in my pocket.

The banter lasted for a while before she noticed the time. It was 6:30 a.m. She had to set off now or she would be late. She called for a taxi and left for the airport after checking her luggage.

She reached the airport by 8 am. It wasn’t an international trip, she was travelling from Beijing to Shanghai on a business trip. When she dragged her suitcase to the check in, there was a huge crowd before her, she couldn’t even see what was before her.

“Excuse me?”, she called out, trying to make her way in, but the crowd wasn’t moving at all. She could even hear the security trying to persuade the crowd to leave.

“Which big idol..”, she mumbled to herself, frustrated. At that time, a voice she could never be more familiar with sounded, “Everyone, please don’t disturb other passengers. I’m very thankful for your support, but can you all make way now”

Suddenly her luggage slipped her hand and fell to the ground, the loud noise made everyone turn to look at her. In the middle of the crowd, was a man who was approximately 1.87m tall, he was wearing a mask, hat and sunglasses which hid most of his prominent features. But beneath it was a face she could not be more familiar with. His peach blossom eyes, the slightly upturned curves of his lips, his pointed nose. She has admired him for 7 long years!! He was wearing a loose shirt and track pants, his entire being giving off a sense of comfort and anyone could say he was very approachable.

She stood there dumbfounded. He walked towards her, her heartbeat kept racing until he was straight in front of her. It was as if the entire world stopped for her. “I’m Sorry”, he apologised, he clearly thought one of her fans would’ve bumped into her, that was why he was apologising.

Her brain still couldn’t process the fact that she saw him so close upfront and the next moment he was already talking to her, making her go even more breathless. Abandoning all these thoughts, her mind worked as a fan right then, “This man is so good ahh!! He was apologising on behalf of his fans ahhhhhh!!!!! How can a person as gentle as him exist!!! I’m simply too lucky to be his fan!!”, her entire mind was a mess.

He waved his hand, “Miss? You okay?”

“Don’t talk ah Don’t talk.!! You are making me go crazy with your voice ahhh!! Why does it sound even better than on shows??”, she screamed in her heart, “No No, talk more, I want to hear more!!”, her own heart countered the argument.

And on the surface, she was standing like a motionless puppet. The moment he took one more step closer to her, she immediately came to earth, and her first thought was, “It was great that she was wearing sunglasses, mask and hat as well or else her appearance would’ve made her want to disappear right then.

The moment she came back to Earth, she immediately grabbed her luggage and dashed out of the crowd. After running out she remembered that it was too impolite and ran back and stood before Yu Shiqi again, her voice trembling, she managed to say, “Thank you”, she bowed down and ran away again.

Yu Shiqi himself was a little dumbfounded by the turn of events and looked down to see the phone lying beneath his feet. He immediately recovered his senses and picked up the phone and called out to the disappearing figure in front of him, “Miss, your phone?”

Lu Xinyi came to a halt and looked back to see her idol waving her phone. She really wanted to bury herself right then and never appear again. How can she act so stupid in front of him?

She immediately ran back and he held the phone out. And accidentally, she pressed the fingerprint sensor and her phone immediately lit up.

Yu Shiqi looked at it casually only to find that it was his picture from the recent photoshoot!! Doesn’t that mean, this strangely behaving person is actually.. his fan? Before he could ask anything, she slipped away again.

He stood there for a couple of seconds before he broke into laughter. Then he looked at the fans around him and said gently, “Don’t post about anything what happened today on any social media platform, Thank you”

He walked towards his manager, “Brother Li, Don’t let what happened today even go out in form of reuters”

“Okay”, his manager Li Ran acknowledged.

As Yu Shiqi walked towards the airport, he only got more amused and interested in that little fan of his. He never encountered someone like that before and he already hoped that he could meet her again.
