Chapter 5 - Cursed Letter
I made my way home, slipping my black handbag off of my shoulder.
My black dress felt so heavy, so I decided to change into something a little more comfortable.
Slipping into an oversized black hoodie, I sat down on the couch in my apartment and opened the letter.
Out of it slid a letter written in my Grandfather's pristine cursive.
Grandpa Andrews
"Dearest Alyssa,
My granddaughter, how you've grown up. You are a beautiful rose that has cultivated itself amongst weeds and pollution. You are the best successor I could have ever asked for."
Grandpa Andrews
"I've told you before, you are special. You were born special, and that made everyone wary of you. They simply didn't understand how amazing you were, but now you truly are ready."
Grandpa Andrews
"I left you 'The Harbouring Rose'. Under no circumstances can you sell it or let it be destroyed. That place is a sanctuary. It has been for many years."
A sanctuary? I heard that my grandfather managed a few companies in his youth, all of which did tremendously well.
Grandpa Andrews
"People like us yearn for escape. I'm giving you a chance, so take it. Inside of this letter is the key to 'The Harbouring Rose'. Open the front door and see for yourself."
Grandpa Andrews
"Never lose sight of who you are. Always come back to that when you need it the most."
Grandpa Andrews
"I couldn't have asked for a better granddaughter."
Grandpa Andrews
"Affectionately,
Your Grandfather
Alistair Taylor Andrews"
I felt like crying all over again when I read that letter.
I knew that he held me in hight regard, but for him to write like that only a few hours before his death, it was as if he was expecting it.
Alyssa Andrews
Were you expecting it, Gramps?
I looked at the letter and sighed, falling back on the couch.
I looked at the ceiling, and tears began to stream down my face.
Normally, I was strong enough to not let tears overcome me.
But today... I think that I'm exempt from not crying.
What is 'The Harbouring Rose'?
And why does my grandfather want to keep it safe at all costs?
What does he want to protect, even after death?
I can't help but wonder... why did he give everything to me?
I mean, I know that he disliked my mother, but not enough to leave her a simple pocket watch instead of a small fortune.
I have no idea how much is in my Grandfather's bank account, but a bit of it is going to be transferred to this card.
Alyssa Andrews
What are you hiding, Gramps?
Alyssa Andrews
What do you want me to find out?
