The Consiquince
As a little girl, I always thought how happy and almost perfect our family was, we came from a very well known rich family in the province and also in the city, my childhood memory where both clear and vivid, I could always remember my mom laughing.
Well I always wish that things will go just as fine as before, but it's not, unfortunately my mom and dad got into a car accident, which is the reason why I was all left alone, I was only 10 that time, so I have an assigned guardian which was my aunt.
Well that didn't last too long, five months later I discovered the truth on what really happened to my parent's.
I saw my aunt talking to some random dude on a phone, I was hiding right beneath the stairs, enough so that she wouldn't notice me.
"I already gave you the money what else could you want?" I heard her say on the phone,
" Why can't you just leave me alone?"She continued,I could already see her annoyed , I continued to hear what the conversation was all about until finally she hung up the phone and then walked past me... She was about to pass by when she noticed my presence... Then suddenly, I felt her hand grab me and throw me on the floor, she started kicking me while yelling in rage at me to get up.
I was screaming in pain and crying out for help,my aunt took advantage of this situation and left. I was still laying on the floor when my aunt entered the house, she grabbed her purse and headed outside again.
When she was gone I sat up, trying to process the events that had taken place,I couldn't believe what I just witnessed...
This was the first time my aunt has ever treated me this way, this past few years she was treating me good, not until today, I never realized a tear was rolling down my cheeks.
"I miss my parent's" I said in my shaky voice,I felt so weak and pathetic for crying over something that happened five years ago,but it hurt so much.
The more I cried, the worse it got, so I tried to stop the tears as best as I could, but eventually I gave up and let the salty water fall from my eyes like a waterfall.
As pathetic as it may sound, I was still hoping that my aunt would calm down and what she did was just a mistake she didn't mean to do, but I was wrong, because not even an hour later,my aunt stormed back into my room.
When I saw her standing there I was terrified that she somehow found my hiding spot, so I quickly hid underneath my bed,not wanting to confront her again, she didn't seem to care that I was sitting under here.
"Come on out of there!" She demanded, I didn't move a muscle in fear, but when she didn't leave I peeked out from under the bed, and there she stood, staring daggers at me, I tried to look away and pretended I wasn't looking at her,but then she grabbed me by the arm.
"That hurts." I could see the range on her eyes, I don't know what hurts more, the fact that my aunt is changing or the way she's grabbing my hand hard enough to break it off.
"This was all your fault if it wasn't for you, you're mother and father would've been alive right now! now look at us in debt" Her voice was full of venom, and as she pulled me along she told me exactly that, she dragged me downstairs.
It all stopped when I heard what she was saying next, "You know why they got in a car accident? Because you were too weak to take care of yourself" she spat, she didn't stop dragging me along with her till we reached the door, she threw it open and pulled me out.
I hurt to admit but my aunt was right, I was a sick kid, my mom and dad would always find there time ti visit me even though they're busy, that day my health was in danger, I begged my mom to come home early because I needed them, but I never knew that day would ever happen, that was the day they both died, I often blaimed myself about what happened that night, but hearing it from someone else hurt's much more than it did in my head.
After all these years, I still feel so numb about the accident, no matter how many times I ask myself what would have changed had I done anything different, it feels impossible to understand, especially considering that everything was supposed to stay the same.
But life never works that way.
She was throwing my clothes out the house, I was begging her to stop, but I was to weak to even stop her, I watched helplessly as the clothes flew in the wind, as if they wanted to remind me that this world was indeed cruel.
Once she emptied the box she turned to me, a sinister smile spreading on her face, she approached me slowly, but still didn't touch me, just stood in front of me, observing my every movement.
She bent down on one knee and looked at me in the eye, the malicious smirk never leaving her face.
"Don't worry sweetheart" she whispered as if she was sharing a secret, she grabbed my chin and lifted my face upwards, "you're gonna meet your mommy and daddy soon" She was laughing hysterically, while I was hopeless on the ground.
At that point I decided to give in, I'm not sure if my aunt knew it, but that day she had won, even if I wanted to run as far from her as possible I couldn't move, my feet wouldn't carry me even if I tried.
Then she leaned closer to me and whispered in my ear.
"Tell me one thing, who are you?"
And with that, she slapped my face, making my cheek sting, blood started pouring out from it instantly, I fell down on the ground and clutched my stinging cheek, I didn't dare make any noise, knowing that I would only anger her further.
I stayed like that for several minutes, until she finally calmed down, and she seemed satisfied with the results she had achieved, after that she wiped the blood from her lips with her sleeve, took something from her pocket and threw it at my feet.
It was my father's wallet, I picked it up and looked inside. It had his name and address written on it in big blue ink, as if he was telling me "look what happens when you're not strong enough"
With that, my aunt went out, slammed the door behind her and left without another word.
When I opened the wallet I saw hundreds of thousands of dollars.
What am I supposed to do now?!
There was nothing left for me to live for anyways, my parents are dead and I won't be able to tell anyone about it because of the risk of exposing my identity, I guess I'll just have to deal with it alone.
I spent most of the week in bed with no appetite, I hardly ate anything, I barely moved. I just kept crying to myself whenever anyone tried to talk to me.
One afternoon I felt like eating something, but I felt too nauseous and weak to stand up, so I decided to stay in bed instead.
It was pretty dark out, I was pretty sure that my aunt is sleeping.
As I opened the fridge I could see nothing, but wine and beers, I have no other choice but to look at the trash bin, I saw a bunch of breads and pizza, I really don't care anymore out of hunger I decided to eat it with no hesitation , I was almost done when I heard a loud knock at the front door, I thought it was my aunt at first, but then I heard her call "Coming!"
She came out a second after, she noticed I was watching her, and she glared at me "Get your *** downstairs!"
who's knocking at 3am at night, she opened the door and I saw a man standing on the other side, I figured it might be another salesman, so I decided to stay silent and continue eating, until the man pushed passed my aunt and walked right up to me.
I couldn't see him very well at first due to the darkness but when I saw who it was I immediately recognized the man.
It was him.
He was wearing the exact same outfit he wore that day 5 years ago and his hair was perfectly combed, he looked like a real businessman, and the last thing on my mind was getting robbed.
The whole time that he was standing beside my aunt's door I was just thinking to myself, this is it I'm almost getting out in this hell house.
He looked at me with shocked about my appearance, my aunt was also shocked she never knew that he would come.
"Can I help you sir?" My aunt asked, sounding annoyed at being interrupted, but the man ignored her and looked at me instead.
He held a small smile on his face as he stepped forward, "It's been a while Aubrey.."
He spoke to me softly as he looked at my bruised face, it was almost like I couldn't tell where he was coming from, I just stared back at him in confusion, I haven't seen him since I was 7 years old and I didn't recognize the guy standing before me.
The man reached out and touched my cheek lightly, I flinched and looked away, "Aubrey...I can't believe it has been 5 years already..." He muttered, trying to hide the pain that his words caused him.
My aunt's anger began rising once again at what he was saying and she yelled at me, "AUBREY GET UPSTAIRS RIGHT THIS INSTANT!!"
