happy: my dad and mom were killed in a fire so I had to steal to survive then I stole something from Mr Ying and he threw me in here with no hesitation I apologize and gave it back but he was still not satisfied he's waiting for me to die

shiny: I'm not going to let you die not now not ever you're going to have a long life like everybody else I promise!

happy: you're not like all the other rich African Americans are you? usually be act all mean and I not nice to people who are less fortunate than they are you are very nice I like you!

shiny: I'm not very rich but I do work hard to get what I want I don't know why certain African Americans who marry white folks are like that but you are like all the other kids I met you're very sweet I'm sorry this has happened to you I promise you when I get out of here I'm going to ask ying to let you out

shiny: then I'll tell him to keep you in the house but let you leave this room it's cold and wet here and I want you to see a doctor

happy: maybe one day you could be my dad if we find each other again you promise you'll adopt me when you get out of here too and then we can live far away from here you promise!
