...E I R I K...

I let out of a sigh of frustration as I pinch the upper bridge of my nose. There's a lot of work to do. As I was looking at some document, he kept on groaning

"Keep quiet Demetrius" I said coldly, giving all of my attention to the papers that I have. Demetrius kept on making some this noises and it annoys the hell out of me. "I said shut the f*ck up!"

He groaned one last time and let his @ss fall back to the sofa once again. Demetrius, the king of the wolves.

He started to act like we are somewhat kind of friends, even we're not. We only joined forces with them in order to win the war that was running for centuries.

After that, we came to a conclusion, an agreement between us vampires and wolves, a friendship. I looked at him as his face was full of frustration

"Why are you here Demetrius?" I asked plainly as my eyes were still focusing of the paperwork's in my hands

"I don't understand girls!" He complained as he throw his head back to the sofa while resting his arms at the both opposite sides. His Sister Alyssa was been pregnant and ran away from her mate and now. Demetrius has to hear her tantrums and complain

"Don't get me involve with your own problems, Demetrius."

"But aren't you supposed to comfort me?"

"Comfort you?" I asked while I raise a brow of mine and looked at him.

"I mean we're friends."

"Your the only one who thinks that we are." I said, looking back at my papers. He touched his chest and reacted like he was hurt by my words. I just ignored him.

"By the way,  a week from now would be Ivanova's 9th death anniversary." I stopped from what I was doing. It was still a shock to me that she died, or more like she self-destruct in some ways. It was still a mystery, why would she do that?

According to the information there was a faint of three bodies near her and one from a meter away before she explode. She left this world for some reasons saying that she wanted a normal life and away from this.

And I knew she was hiding something, something she wanted to protect. She left no trace and hid perfectly just to protect that something

What was she protecting?

"It's been nine years, and you haven't visited her." Demetrius said, which is also true.

The day that I heard about her being passed away, I didn't got to go to her funeral nor even visited her.

Only Demetrius did. And for some reasons, they seem to be closed to each other when she's still alive.

"Won't you go? I mean you never did even go to her funeral."

"I am busy for that kind of stuff, Demetrius."

"B*llsh*t! She was also your friend, God d@mn it!" He exclaimed, he stood up and walked towards me and slammed both of his hand in my table.

I glance at him and back to my papers.

"At least give some respect to her daughter."

I stopped.

"Wait. Daughter? Ivanova had a daughter?" I asked again.

"Yeah, Ivy adopted a child." He said, shrugging his shoulders.

I kept on silence.

"And besides, you are the guardian of that child." He said, and I was lost in words for a second.

"Wait, a guardian? Me?"

"Yeah, Ivanova left a letter." He said, placing a piece of envelope in my table.

Why would she do that?

Why me?

"Just at least see the child, just once." He said before he left without another word.

I just let out a sigh as I stare at the envelope, for a very long time when a knock appear behind my door.

"What?"

"Sorry to disturb you My King but." He paused for a brief moment and continued. "Count Valiente wanted to seek for your presence"

*sigh*

"I'll be there." I said and let out a deep breath.

We fangers, or so you called us 'Vampires', lived for eternity. We don't burn under the bright hot sun nor we will die caused by a holy water.

But yes, sliver can harm us, cut us, and can kill us. Goes with the wolves. We aren't like those what humans saw on televisions as they believed to be.

Our existence was still a secret from this world.

I've been a king for over 14 years after the great war, between us creatures and the hunters. We've lost hundreds of our men but it was worth a risk, we won the war.

A month after the war, I haven't seen Ivanova until I heard she's leaving. Not to another place, but leaving this world. For good.

After talking to Valiente, I returned to my office and continued my paper works until my eyes landed at the very same envelope that Demetrius left.

I grabbed that piece of envelope and opened it, reading the letter that Ivanova left.

...Dear Eirik,...

...Or should I call you 'Your Excellency, Your Highness, or Your Majesty'? Which would you prefer?...

...I know that 'Time is Gold' so I'll just go straight to the point. I know that this is a shock, knowing that in just a snap, you've become a guardian of a child. I know that I had left without saying a word to you that I'll be leaving, but I have too....

...I know that this day would come. Knowing that my life will come to an end sooner or later and I had already accepted that fate....

...Please do protect her from them, at any cost....

...— Ivanova...

...────༺☾︎༻────...

After reading the letter, I leaned to my chair and closed my eyes and opened them slowly as I stared up to the ceiling.

"I guess I have to take a day off then." I said to myself with a smile to my lips.

And with that, I knew I had found my answer. My answer to my own question.

Ivanova wasn't protecting something, rather it was someone.
