The Death Ring

Music was blasting through the many speakers that hung all around the room, but it was nearly drowned out by the cheering of the people crowded tightly around a giant, circular cage in the center.

I shoved my way towards the center and almost gasped when I saw the spectacle that had captured everyone’s attention. A pale blue eye glared at a monstrous opponent through a mess of white hair. He brushed his hand harshly across his face in an attempt to clear the hair blocking his view, but it barely did a thing due to the sweat plastering it to his head. He huffed angrily and barely managed to evade a powerful swipe from his humongous, tiger\-like opponent’s claws. He stumbled as he awkwardly tried to regain his balance. He hardly had any time to recover before the enormous tiger lunges at him again, relentlessly swinging his dagger\-like claws. The boy miraculously managed to dodge every attack in a near graceful fashion. I watched in surprise as he skillfully climbed up the bars surrounding them and flipped down from them to land on the beast’s back. His fists violently came down across the sensitive area on the tiger’s neck and it stumbled. Once it was finally panting on the floor in a mix of pain and exhaustion, he grabbed its tail and swung the tiger around before allowing it to slam into the bars. Walking over, he continued to relentlessly attack the lifeless monster until he was sure it was gone for good.

There is NO way a human is that strong. What in the world is he?!*

*The crowd erupted in cheers as the boy rose to stand confidently in the center, although his exhaustion was evident. A speaker crackled over head, “Dare he face more?” The crowd screamed their approval while the boy glared at the speakers. A section of the floor in the cage was lowered, and when it came back up it had a bear. The moment the platform was high enough, the bear barreled towards the exhausted boy. I nervously watched as the boy battled the bear with all the strength he could muster. Just as the bear was finally defeated, the boy collapsed. The crowd erupted into even more deafening cheers.

What the heck is wrong with these people? That poor boy is probably 22 at most. Where are their morals? Ah, right… I’m in a heck hole…

I walked away as the boy slowly disappeared while being lowered into the ground by one of the platforms in the floor. I had a mission and I couldn’t get distracted again. My eyes were drawn to a dark corner of the room. There were fewer people there, yet all of the weight of the room seemed to focus right there. A man stood with is arms crossed and a pensive look on his face. He had broad shoulders and was quite tall. An aura of power exuded from him. Was this the man I was supposed to kill? I studied his features carefully. A straight nose, serious eyes the color of jade with an emerald tint around the rim. His jet black hair was brushed neatly out of his face and was slightly wavy. His jawline was very sharp and strong, which contrasted with the gentle curve of his lips. If I’m being honest, he was pretty handsome even by my standards, and I tend to be fairly picky. Agh… killing someone as rare and blessed in looks as him felt almost painful.

Well, at least I won’t feel as disgusted while trying to coax him into a less crowded place. He isn’t too bad on the eyes\~ His expression is a bit scary though…

*I took a deep breath and let it out in a shaky sigh.

Ah… here goes nothing.

And with that, I made my way towards him. If only I had understood how powerful he was sooner…
