The Curse

My curiosity grew after what Caroline told me. Curses, really? Maybe she was just toying with my mind. I mean she does like spooky things that involve the supernatural but curses?

I have to admit, I do feel cursed but I never show it. I began to see puberty when I back in middle school and nobody seemed to back me up whenever I was teased or bullied. Some of the teachers defended me but when I went to High school, it got worse. My ****** grew to a size of a mature adult and I was molested because of that. Boys wanted touch me, girls mocked me and teachers sexually harassed me and when I told the Principal about it, he brushed it off as false accusations. The only one person believed me and that was Mrs. Jenkins the Guidance Counselor. She helped me by letting me hide in her office, turning her restroom into my private changing room and locker. We became so close that she gave me the spare key to her office in case I needed anything.

Her attempts to minimize the bullying worked until she told me she was going to retire. Getting close to her sixties, she over stayed her welcome in the school. Since she did not trust anyone with me she decided to transfer me to another school via the Student Exchange Program. I told no one of my departure, not even the Principal did not know until the day I was leaving. He was surprised but ended up signing the papers. Like the wind, I disappeared from the school and the kind sweet old lady retired.

I was thinking about it when I lay on my bed that night. Now that I think of it, I do believe in curses but are they are real? What did she mean by students stabbing each other and committing suicide? I know what murder is but suicide? Come to think of it, the first time we met, she mentioned something about curses but was quickly shushed by her friends. Why did they do that?

I spent the weekend with that question in my mind then Monday rolled in. I did not need to worry since my Uncle was in the hospital healing from his wounds and my Aunt would be drunk on the couch.

I take a taxi to school but I see Police cars at the entrance. Something was wrong. What are police cars doing here? Is it a burglary? Did someone get hurt? I pay the driver, jump out of the car and run towards the school gates where I see men in uniform, students and yellow tape.

"What is going on here?" I ask running straight into the police's arms. "What happened?"

"Ma'am we have to ask you to step back please," he said with an air of authority.

I don't budge and try to pass him but a pair of hands grab me from behind. I look behind me and see that it was Ralph and he dragged me from the scene.

"Ralph what is going on?" I ask as he led me to where the rest of my friends were. I saw Brianna, Aubrey, and Andrew but Caroline and Brutes were missing. Brianna pried me from her brother's arms and made me sit down next to Andrew who was pale as a ghost.

"What is going on here?" I ask for the last time my anger rising but no one answered me. "Talk to me."

Andrew looked at me then looked away. "I don't know."

"None of us know," Brianna said giving me straight in the face.

I grit my teeth because I know they were lying. They were acting the same way they did when Caroline mentioned the curse when we first met. Why are they lying to me? Why are they being so secretive?

"Attention students," a deep bass voice announced. "All of you are requested to go to the Gym room and wait for the Detectives to interview you. If your friends or relatives are not here, please give the police their phone numbers and address."

'Thank God I am here.' I think as I go to the Gym. Andrew and Ralph go to one of the policemen and talk to them. 'They are probably giving them Caroline and Brutes phone numbers and addresses.'

I sit next to Brianna and Aubrey and wait. It was a long wait and I had a lot of questions in my mind but all of them were still going to be unanswered by my friends. They knew what was going on so why were they lying to me? Soon all the students arrived and immediately when I saw Caroline, I remembered what she said to me about the curses. Was this one of them?

I watched her sit next to Andrew, her long hair still covering part of her face and not saying a word while Brutes sat next to Ralph. Then I heard the same person who told us to move to the Gym announced something that sent shivers up my spine.

"Good morning students." Its voice echoed through the room. "I know you are wondering why you are all here. Well I have some bad news, one of you has passed away."

'Wait someone is dead?' I look at my friends who had stone cold expression on their faces especially Caroline.

"A student named Brian Anderson is dead and from what we have seen, he was stabbed to death with a knife. So please stay behind until we can gather more information on him."

We did as we were told and a few hours later, we asked to leave. Immediately when we left the school grounds, Brianna suggested that we all go to the café to get a drink. I was still numb about the whole incident so I agreed.

'Why were they taking this so normal?' I asked myself as we ordered some tea and milkshakes. Soon we talked about karaoke and the fair. No one talked about the murder which was extremely odd. I tried to it stay normal but my stomach churned. I know he is the queen bee's boyfriend and was probably hated by nearly all for his attitude bratty behavior but he was a human being.

"Umm guys," I say standing up. "Can...can I go to the bathroom?"

Brianna looked surprised. "Are you alright?"

"Yeah I am fine," I lie and rush to the women's room where I threw up in the toilet, twice.

"Emma," a voice called. I turn and see Caroline in her spooky self but she was on Fluttershy mood. "Are you okay?"

I shake my head.

"Don't worry about this." she said with a creepy smile. "It is all normal. Everything is going to be fine."

I gasped. This is normal? I threw up again.

"Stuff like this happen all the time!" I heard her say. "We the students are lucky that it was not one of us."

I gasp and look at her. "So the curse is real?"

She nodded and frowned. "Are you going to leave?"

I look at her.

"Are you going to leave the school Emma? It would be a shame if you did."

She was looking deep into my eyes, begging me but I was too shocked to say a word.

"I can tell you why we are acting like this." she said walking closer to me. "We made a mistake of telling a new student about the school and he left the next day. I wanted to at least give you a hint about the school but..."

She trailed off at that part. I looked at her with suspicion then it hit me; one of them did it? But why?

I shake the thoughts out of my head. "I need to go home."

She nods. "Do you want to me to take you home?"

I stand up. "No thanks I am good."

She led me out of the bathroom to where my friends were seated.

"Hey you look a little flushed are you alright?" Andrew asked.

"She is a bit traumatized." Caroline said holding me.

Brianna nods. "I will call you later okay?"

I nod and Caroline walk me out of the café. Once we were in the streets, she stops me and whispers into my ear, "If you want to know more about the curse, come to the school at night. You can find your answers there."

Then she lets go of my arm and walk back to the café leaving me shaking like a leaf.
