Awakening (cont'd)

He was listening to me carefully and let out a deep sigh before looking saddened and sorry for me.

"You must build a boat before you use it to cross the sea but your troubles aren't over, for you must then keep the boat afloat and battle the raging sea, then, and only then, can you say you have had an adventure."

His eyes sparked with wisdom and the aging in his face was replaced with youth beyond imagination. For a minute time seemed to stop and everything seemed quite, the only thing echoing in my head were the words I just heard and I was trying to make an understanding of these words.

Within that minute I grasped what I needed to do and I knew I was ready.

We ate our burger and fries silently when Sid brought it from behind the the door he had previously disappeared through.

I had a double cheeseburger with extra bacon and grandpa had his favourite veggie burger, which gave you such a satisfactory taste it would be hard to tell that it was a vegetarian burger.

It's Sid's way of making vegetarian burgers enjoyable for his customers to have a real meat burger experience.

After finishing our burgers our dessert was brought to us.

Sid had an extra gleam on his face as he approached me and I couldn't help but giggle at his silliness when he stuck is tongue our and urged me to close my eyes.

When I opened them up I let out a huge gasp as I stared at the gorgeous heap of ice-cream before me.

"This my dear is a recipe I have been working on for a while and you are the first to try it."

"It's a mint Oreo Carmel chocolate swirl with chunks of chocolate in there and a raspberry syrup filling to the centre."

"I added extra Jelly beans for you. What do you say about that?"

"It is my pleasure to be the first to try this new recipe."

"If nothing else, this surprise just lifted my mood sky high and I can't wait to try it. Thank you very much Sid!"

Before I knew it I pulled Sid in to a bear hug. He was surprised at first but then he opened his arm to return the hug.

I heard grandpa give out a chuckle and I could help but laugh at my action.

I release Sid and sat down to ogle at this beauty before me.

"Seems like someone is excited to dig in, I will leave you to it then little ice-cream monster."

He winked at me before turning around and heading towards a customer that had just entered.

This new recipe was like a bomb being set off within my mouth and I couldn't help sighing in satisfaction.

The flavours blended really well and the raspberry syrup balanced the sweetness with a bit of sour like tang and together fireworks were set off in my head.

Colours exploded as my taste buds did a summersault and I swayed into a happy dance on my seat, just grooving to a music booming in my mind and the sound of the radio playing in the diner was inaudible.

I felt like I was twirling, skipping, dancing, jumping and just letting loose with every spoonful of ice-cream that disappeared in my mouth, It was that good.
