Ko Ko said he bought me a book. A story book. Ko Ko once told me that he loved reading stories. But I had never read or seen a story. According to Ko Ko, the characters and the creatures in the story were enviable. They were so lovely and the places where they live were so beautiful. He was so envious of the princes and the heroes, but he hated bad people who were dangerous for, chased after and harassed the good ones. Ko Ko said they were called 'bad guys'.
In this world, there were so many kinds of people; a good person, a bad guy, rich man, the poor and so many more. By what standards did they assume a person was good or bad? So, was I a good person or a bad guy? The laws of this world were too many to count. I just realised this world had been full of curiosity since I arrived.
As long as I did what Mom and Dad told me to do, I learned to walk. With playing with Ko Ko and holding hands, I learned the art of running.
After my mother's sweet milk, I learned to eat rice. With my mother's guidance, I learned to chew on my teeth. I became accustomed to eating oily rice and dishes with gravy. Although I could not see the toys my father used to buy, I learned to play. Some of these toys were soft and fluffy; some hairy; some solid; some with wrinkles; some may be about my height so I can even sleep on it.
In other words, Mom, Dad and Ko Ko were the only characters in my life story in this world. They were good people. I learned a lot from them. With them, I shared some of the stories of this world. I got to know some good things but a bad man at heart. I still did not know what a bad person was. I thought I was going to get to know what a bad guy was by listening to the stories that I would be read by Ko Ko this night.
"Little one, listen and I will read the story to you."
I kept my ears open for Ko Ko to read to me. I had to listen to the story that Ko Ko was telling and from that, I would find what I literally wanted to know.
"Once upon a time, there was, a lion King and so many animals in a forest. It is said that the lion set the boundaries of the forest. The lion decided if there was a dispute between the animals. One day, one of the animals, a jackal showed that he, too, wanted to be king. So how could a small animal like him dare to say this to an animal as strong as a lion?
When the lion king heard this, he said, "OK, let's compete." The lion king was so strong that the jackal was often bit, pulled from his neck and threw away several times. Although the jackals lived in a group, he was ridiculed by his relatives as he dared to compete with the only one who could be the king, and they said they shamed on him. Even when competing, they did not support the jackal but their king, the lion.
No matter how hard the jackal tried, he lost as they were not on the balance of the physical strength.
After the competition, the lion king spoke to the animals. "If you pretend you are not equal to yourself, you will end up losing," he said. You all should know yourself and your ability. Make sure you know your position and do what works best for you. Be careful whether it, the way you use your power, is suitable or not to the time and circumstances of the situation." All the animals in the audience applauded their lion king.
The dog came out of there with a frown on his face. All the animals he saw on the road scoffed at him, saying, " It's so good that you've been bitten like this as you race with the wrong intentions."
The jackal then lived alone on the edge of the forest ruled by the Lion King.
Well . . . This is the end of the story."
"Is it done, Ko Ko?"
"It's done," Ko Ko said. "Little one, it's just like the lion king in the story. The fact is that we should do what is right and convenient for us. The way you and I used to play has become a game we should not play, Little one."
"Ah . . . How fun is it for us to play like that game?"
"It's fun, but if we play, we will get hurt, Little one. You was injured last month for playing that game with me. And Mom told us not to play anymore. It's time to switch to another game. Is it fun for us to switch to new games? "
“I'm happy when I play new games but to tell the truth, I prefers the old one."
"Then remember what the lion said in the story. What does the big lion say?"
"Do what is worth for you. Be careful whether it, the way you use your power, is suitable or not to the time and circumstances of the situation. Otherwise, you will get hurts."
"All right. Well . . . Little one, you should sleep. I'm going to sleep, too. I will read you more stories in the coming days. Now go to bed."
"Yup."
I just kept my eyes closed but kept thinking about the story that Koko told me. Does a story in this world give such a perspective like that? Do we need to try not to compete with the ones we cannot fight back? Is that really needed for us? Do we have any chance to just try? Should we do only the things what is right for us? Should we?
So if the first one didn't work, why not make a second effort?
There were a lot of things I didn't like about this story. I also did not like what the lion said. I also dislike the idea of the animals. I also disappointed with the fact that once the jackal lost, it did not try again. I do not like the jackal that did not dare to compete again because of caring the others' ridicule and not making the necessary adjustments to fight the lion back. As Ko Ko once said, I did not find any enviable in that story. But Ko Ko seemed to like the lion king. I did not like anyone in the story. There was no chemistry with me in that story.
One of the things I was thinking about was why not we try again.
HaHa . . . I'm just thinking as I can only do thinking and now I can no longer play the game I absolutely want to play. May the lesson of this story, as Ko Ko said, really be true?
In the dream of that night, Ko Ko and I were not the only ones of my dream. Mom and Dad were playing the game I really want to play together with us. In that dream, I was blindfolded and chasing Mom, Dad and Ko Ko with a handkerchief. No matter how many times I chased, I was tirelessly chasing them. It was really fun to play. I had never seen Mom, Dad and Ko Ko in my real life of this world but in my dream of my mine, all three of them were playing with me.
In the dreams, my eyes were always covered with a handkerchief.
Are dreams just stories, also? . . .
