She feels darkness taking over her, everything blurry, her head hurts lying on the floor. Isabella doesn't understand what happened, she tries to get up.
After tripping over the carpet, she hit her head on the corner of the dresser. She feels a liquid dripping on her ear; it's bleeding.
"Damn my luck, is anything else going to happen today?" She carefully gets up.
She grabs a towel and covers the wound; there is a lot of blood on the floor. Once everything is tidy, she starts gathering her belongings.
If Jed didn't love her, she had no reason to stay in that house. She wouldn't abort their child, but what if he came looking for her to force her? She would write him a letter.
Jed:
You were right, I thought you would propose to me as soon as I told you I was pregnant. I have decided not to waste any more of my time and youth with you.
Isabella
That should be enough for him to stop looking for her, to hit his pride. She knew very well that Jed wouldn't stand being mocked. He wouldn't look for her, and her child would be safe, along with money and jewels. She left the note on the bed, got into her car, and left the city.
Her destination was uncertain, but she needed to put distance between them. She wouldn't stop until she reached another city.
Jed finished his whiskey, picked up his phone, and asked the chauffeur to get the car ready. He called his friend Roberto to invite him for dinner; he wanted to clear up some doubts about Isabella's pregnancy.
Roberto was the only person he could talk to with complete sincerity, he trusted him. Jed knew nothing about the pregnancy, and although he didn't believe deep down that Isabella had cheated on him, he preferred to ask Roberto when paternity could be confirmed.
He left his office and entered the elevator to the ground floor.
He would tell Isabella his decision; he pictured the expression on her face when she found out that he was willing to make an honest woman out of her.
During dinner with Roberto, he congratulated Jed on his impending fatherhood. Although they had only crossed paths with Isabella on very few occasions, from what he had observed, she wasn't the kind of woman who would play such a trick. But if he wanted to make sure, once the pregnancy status and timing were confirmed, Roberto would tell him when it would be convenient to do the DNA test.
After dinner, he asked the chauffeur to first drop Roberto off at his house and then take him to Isabella's apartment. Jed had his own apartment, and nine months ago, he had bought Isabella's apartment without her knowing. When they first met, she was living in a house with some study partners; he arranged for her to have that apartment through a friend who had gone on a trip for a while.
Isabella would be the landlady, but his stupid friend fell in love on the trip, so he sold him the apartment for Isabella. He had arrived at the apartment; he observed from the street that the lights were off. He entered the building, took the elevator, and opened the door. It was all dark.
"Isa, I'm home!" He went to the bedroom. The bed was empty.
"Where could you be?" He saw the note, took it in his hands. Jed couldn't believe what he was reading— she was a damn whore! He started checking the furniture. She had taken everything, even a damn plant that was in the dining room.
