When Time Stood Still

I’ll never forget that day I was so scared and so angry I didn’t know what to do at all. Everything happened so fast it was like it flashed before my eyes but felt so slow it was like time stood still.

I sat there behind the Corner of the stairs but I heard a loud “BOOM!!” Went off i looked and saw a gunshot went off and my mom’s body fell with a thud bleeding out from her chest. I covered my mouth and held back all my tears, whimpers, and as it felt like a roaring waterfall was gonna burst out of me. My face was in Ruin and and panick as my Dad yelled for her louder and louder calling her name “YUMIKO” “YUMIKO”!! He screamed but no response came from her and 3 men stood above them as they laid on the ground 2 had pins and looked like they belonged in prison with resting violent faces and eerie feeling of murderous intent with them. Then there was 1 more and he was the face I could remember burned into my memory as his face became tattooed in my brain he was Tall let’s say 6’0 a maddening look on his face as if it were a wild dog taken human form with eyes of a Blood lusted animal and the physic while not as fat was as big as a Bear and slimly muscular, a more Saitama looking Physic. The look on his face told me he was losing it, like he was going to snap at any moment something was ripping him apart tipping him over the edge. He had tears rolling down his eyes and my Dad looked at him angered but defeated knowing there was no where to go and noticed me in the corner he smiled and from his lips he said “I’m sorry.” His eyes went from warm and soft to then narrow blank and cold he then asked “Brother what ya want, you killed my wife and now beating the shit storm out of me what I do now?” Angered by his question the Crazy man had spoke “We knew it was fake you Dam bastard, why do it when you knew we would come after you anyway…you betrayed us Brother.”

“So its been found out huh..” his dad said with a careless tone. “Your debts must be paid for leaving us empty handed you know as such thus is the cost of leaving the family if you can’t do it by choice we take, That has and always will be the Leone fool.” The man above my dad looked at him and began to cry and tried to calm himself down saying “I was hoping this day would never come brother we all hoped and had chosen you..how could you do this to us.” My dad looked at him a tear came down his face “Brother…I found a better life better and greater things then being a hustling business man of the underworld, nor being a thug for violence can’t you see it brother a life beyond the one you live now.” He paused for a brief minute the mans eyes lit up a light shined but it dimmed fast and went to a dead look a pair of eyes that knew their fate, “brother I finally realized our…or now should I say my dream to make it to the top I’m clan captain now…the next Chairman in however long after the 2nd croaks. Maybe I’ll just go ahead and kill him down the line we did joke about how old and stubborn he is huh.” A shocked but nostalgic look appeared on my dads and he said to the man my supposed uncle I guess, “I’m proud of you brother…proud of your accomplishments,” the man above him became angered and began and began pistol whipping my dad over and over leaving him bloodied and bruised but keeps on yelling “YOU DON’T GET TO SAY THAT YOU TRAITOR YOU LEFT US WHEN IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE YOU WHO LED US!!” He finally stopped and began to shake and twitch my dad head having looked like a waterbaloon with holes in it.

My dad looked at me happy when he saw me and then looked at my mom he mumbled something under his breath I couldn’t see what he said and it was a face of pain but knowing he had no place to run he went on ahead knowing the outcome. My dad laughed “Hahahaha, brother I hope your own success runs you to well, this life you know how it is it will consume you till your all gone and then have nothing or no one else in the end.” The man then crying began to laugh hysterically as his pupils vanished and his expression went into a translation of feelings he had finally stopped and then with his dark lifeless eyes told my father: “Were scum brother that’s what this life has taught me that’s what we are and that’s what we always will be this life taught us and corrupted us with that, there’s no honor no morals only money and status the legend, the mythos even this is your final resting spot any last words fool.” He looked at me for a brief instant and my dad said “I’m sorry" and with that he looked up at him and said “Go to Hell brother you talk to dam much how you gonna lead the clan wit no action huh!?” Angered he shot dad a total of 6 times calling and yelling for him saying he’ll always be a traitor. I sat there holding my mouth for hours breaking down I could barely hold it in all I felt was just severe aches and floods of emotions and tears came out and eventually after holding it enough I stopped. What has thrown me off is why he still stood there he was crying but looked as if he had lost it all in a sense he was broken…maybe the loss of my dad hurt him to. He said something before he left he said “All of it now…rests on me”. The man left as the young boy sat there he crawled to his parents asking if they’re gonna get back up now “The jokes over mom…dad get up now please…” he sat there and waited then he just grabbed his parents hands and sat there holding them knowing wherever his parents went they were not coming back. The police came in eventually after the neighbors had called reports of “suspicious behavior” they noticed the kid and knowing who did this as he was holding on to the pin. The child wouldn’t let go his parents nor the pin and eventually the whole incident swept under the rug only remembered by the man who pulled the trigger and the boy who’s life was changed by this whole event.
