Of All The Secrets His Heart Can Hold

Of All The Secrets His Heart Can Hold

A New Year Of Possibilities

D's POV

It's a lovely day, the sun is shining, I wake up to the most wonderful aroma of the coffee, a cup of that and I'll be good to go. This year is going to be the last year of school, finally! I go downstairs to find my dad already in front of his laptop frowning.

"Good morning Dad"

"Good morning kid, are you ready for school? Are the others going to come to pick you up?" he asked sipping some coffee.

"Well they probably are, but I'm dragging Kev out of his bed for sure."

"Good luck with that, because that kid hardly sleeps," he said, worried.

Well of course he was worried, Cavil being his godson and all. Cavil is my neighbour, best friend, and son my mother wished she had. He always had a hard time sleeping, but it had gotten worse of late and all of us partially knew why, but the full story he never told anyone, not even me and I have known him since the day he was born, literally.

I run back to my room, shower, get ready for school and run next door and I seemed to have entered at the wrong time because there was a terse silence when I entered, Aunt Sushi, Cavil's mom, looked like she was about to burst into tears, Uncle's jaw was bunched and his hands were fisted to the side, trembling slightly, Cavil's older brother Rishabh just looked sad. Amidst all this, the centre of the chaos, Cavil stood, his head bent.

Hearing me enter they all turned towards me, and uncle and aunty faked a smile and ushered me in. Cavil just dragged me by my hand and lead me outside, his bag was by the porch, he took that and pulled me towards the gate. Something was definitely wrong. I snatched my hand back and brought him to a stop.

"Kev, what's going on?

"It's nothing important D, forget it"

"I'm pretty damn sure that it's important, just tell me!"

"I told them that I wanted to go to Delhi."

"What's the problem with that? I mean, just to visit right?"

"No, I want to go there for college next year"

I looked at him for some kind of a sign that this was a joke, but his eyes were very serious.

"Why would you do that?"

"I have my reasons, just don't ask me anything more about this, OK? Let's just get the others and head to school, I don't want my last year of school to start this way."

I wanted to probe further but something told me that I should keep my mouth shut.

The rest of the group had agreed to meet near the park the previous day and the four of them were already there. Nick, Naira, Naina, Aadya, were the remaining members of our group and I and Kev have known them since we were four, and we have remained best friends ever since.

Nick short for Nicholas is the calm and observant type, he doesn't talk a lot but when he does it's all that British sarcasm coming in your direction. His parents moved here to India when he was around four. He's 5'10, blue-eyed and black-haired, I think some would describe him as the 'hot nerd' type.

Naira or Ne-Ne as we call her is a sweet and charming girl, that is, if you are on her good side, you would not wanna mess with this one. She's 5'3, green-eyed, amazing girl who does not lack attention givers, but weirdly enough she's in love with her arch-enemy Nick, I think they have a sort of love-hate going on. Whatever it is, it's gross but they look alright together, so that's fine.

Now the remaining two girls Naina and Ada are sort of the heart throbs of the entire school, they are very very different from each other, with Naina at 5'6, gorgeous and witty and Ada at 5 ft, adorable yet savage, they are a horrifying combo and they take no B.S.

Oh, and lastly, Cavil Sharma, he's probably the most complex one to describe, he's 6 ft tall, athletic, smart and probably the most silent person you'll meet. Well his silence is more recent, he used to be very cheery and smile a full dimpled smile, but now he doesn't smile as much. His morose outlook is enhanced furthermore by his eyes, he has multicoloured eyes predominantly blue and green with specks of gold in them. They change colour based on his mood and he's the youngest of the group while Nick is the oldest.

"So, shall we get going?", Nick asked walking ahead of us.

So, we all made our way to school to begin our first day of the last year of school.
