Chapter 4 My Birthday is Coming up

Charles walked inside the office in his military uniform, making the principal and woman wondering who he was. “Oh, Caroline. You’re here. I thought you couldn’t make it.”

“I should say the same to you,” Caroline responded. “What happened?”

“Who are you?” Asked the woman. “That is not important,” Charles responded. Caroline looked at the principal and uttered, “I’ve had enough of this nonsense. Do you wish to keep your job, or do you wish to get fired?”

“Why are you threatening the principal like that?” Asked the woman as she filmed Caroline. Caroline looked at the woman and let out a sigh. Charles grabbed the woman’s cellphone from her hand and split it into two. He let the cellphone fall to the floor, making more damage.

“Ms. King, there is no reason for you to do that. This was just a mere misunderstanding. Your children will not be punished.” Caroline smiled and then she spoke, “despite making me waste my time, I am glad we finally understand ourselves.”

The principal looked at the woman and spoke, “Mrs. Ruiz, I am afraid Caleb will be expelled along with his siblings.”

“What? My other children have nothing to do with this.” The woman reached into her Louis Vuitton purse and fetched another cellphone. “This is unacceptable. I don’t you understand who my husband is. He is a manager at C&K International.”

Charles let out a snicker and Caroline smiled. Caroline looked at the principal and spoke, “I think we are done here.” Caroline looked at her children and said, “come on. We’re leaving.” Mia and Ian began to walk closer to Caroline. As Mia walked by Caleb, she stuck out her tongue.

When Mia turned around, Caleb grabbed a strand of Mia’s hair and pulled her hair. Mia let out a loud whine and was about to slap Caleb when his mother tightly grasped Mia’s arm. Mia let out a soft cry and Caroline instantly placed her hand over the woman’s forearm. Caroline tightened her grip over the woman’s arm, sinking her nails into the woman’s fair skin.

“I suggest you let go of her before you lose your arm.” Taken aback by Caroline’s statement, the woman slowly let go of Mia’s arm. Caroline picked Mia up and began to walk out of the principal’s office as she grabbed Ian’s hands.

Charles looked at the woman hissing at the small cuts Caroline left on her skin and commented, “I suggest you change your name move to another country.” Charles also left the office and caught up with Caroline. He picked Ian up and walked beside Caroline.

“What are you going to do with that woman?” Charles asked. “Me? Noting. The children should not hear this conversation.” Charles chuckled as he could only imagine the things Caroline would do.

Charles accompanied Caroline to the car and sat the children in the back seat. He buckled their seatbelts and then made his way back to work. Then, Caroline got in the front seat as the chauffeur watched her drive away.

Caroline looked at the twins through the rear-view mirror and asked, “are you two hungry? It’s almost lunchtime.” The twins nodded as they responded, “yes.” Caroline smiled and began to drive towards Roxy’s restaurant.

On his way back to work, Charles held the wheel with one hand as he searched through his contact list on his cellphone. When he found Liam’s contact, he dialed Liam’s phone number. When Liam answered the call, Charles began to tell Liam about what happened today.

Despite knowing where Caroline and Liam’s relationship stands, Liam was still the father of the twins. But most importantly, Charles feared Caroline would do something to the mother and her family because of what happened today.

When Caroline arrived at the restaurant, she got off the white Maserati SUV and opened the back door. She helped Ian out of the SUV before helping Mia. She then closed the door and as they stepped inside the restaurant, the valet worker took her car.

As soon as they walked into the restaurant, they were greeted by Roxy, who was waiting for them at the entrance. She hugged Caroline as she spoke, “Caroline, it’s so nice to see you.” Caroline hugged her tighter and responded, “you too, Rox.”

When they stopped embracing each other, Roxy said hello to the twins and then led them to their table. They sat on their seats at a table that was set for five people. Caroline looked at the empty plate next to Roxy and asked, “is anyone joining us?” Roxy looked at the empty seat and smiled.

Right at that moment, Sebastian walked inside the restaurant and was led to their table. When she saw him, Caroline instantly walked up to him to hug him. “Teddy,” she spoke, “where have you been? You stopped responding to my calls and messages.”

Sebastian let out a nervous chuckle and responded, “sorry. My phone fell and I haven’t gotten a chance to get a new one.” Caroline pursed her lips. “I will let it slide this time.” Sebastian pulled her into another hug and then spoke, “do think I still haven’t forgotten the way you forgot about me for four years.”

Caroline separated from the hug and clarified, “and I regret doing that every single day of my life.”

“Well, I do have a way you can make it up to me.”

“And what would that be?”

“My birthday I coming up... I want my own island.”

“Deal. Where do you want it?” Sebastian chuckled and then said, “let’s talk about the details later.” Caroline nodded and he walked over to the twins. He greeted the twins and then he sat next to Roxy. He greeted her with a soft peck on the cheek.

After they shared a meal together, Caroline drove to the mansion. She walked hand in hand with the twins and led them to their bedroom. The nanny followed behind them and in order to prepare a bath for the twins.

Caroline went to her study and sat on her chair. She took a deep breath and thought of what to do with the woman she met today. Caroline let out a sigh. ‘I don’t wish to do anything to the woman, but I cannot leave her be after she insulted the twins and hurt Mia.’

Caroline remembered inspecting Mia’s arm and found a bruise left by the woman’s harsh grasp. She powered on her laptop as she formulated a plan. Caroline entered the company’s database and looked up the woman’s husband.

After making sure she got the right person, Caroline picked up her cellphone and dialed a number. “I have a job for you. One million. What do you say?” After some silence, the person on the other side of the call agreed. “Good. You will receive more information about the job later.”

After hanging up the phone, Caroline walked out of the study, and as soon as she did, she encountered her mother. “Caroline, can I have a word with you?” The two women made their way to the outdoor lounge. They sat opposite each other and then Elizabeth spoke, “Caroline, please. You don’t have to leave. I have already apologized for looking at the test results.”

“My mind is already set. We have lived together long enough; I think it is time for me to move out.” Caroline stood up from her chair and added, “you will still get to see the twins if that is what you are worried about.”

Caroline walked back inside the house and made her way towards the pet room. She looked at Brownie, who was running around in her cage. Caroline opened the cage and held the pet ferret in her arms.

Caroline looked at Chocolate, who was sitting next to her and crouched down. She pat the dog’s head as she spoke, “hopefully you get to come with us too. I don’t want you and Brownie to be separated.” Caroline smiled and then stood up again.

She walked out of the room as Chocolate followed behind her, making their way to the twins’ playroom. The twins were playing tag when Caroline walked inside the room. She chuckled and then walked to the seat by the window. She looked at the twins and spoke, “Achilles should be here any second. Why don’t you two save some energy?”

The twins looked at Caroline and Mia responded, “come play with us, mommy.” Caroline smiled and stood up from the chair. She placed the ferret that was resting on her lap on top of the chair and she walked up to the twins. She slipped off her lavender stilettoes and spoke, “run.”

The twins instantly made their way out of the playroom, running from Caroline while they had a smile from ear to ear and their giggles as loud as they could be. Caroline slowly jogged, letting the twins run from her. “I will catch you,” Caroline said in her playful tone.

The twins laughed as they tried to run faster. When they reached the entrance, they found Charles, Persephone, and Achilles entering the mansion. Caroline looked at them and continued to go after the twins.

Elizabeth made her way to the door to greet the guests. She was about to greet Charles when he asked, “why is Caroline barefoot and running after the twins?”

“I believe they are playing a game of tag,” Elizabeth responded. Charles then greeted Elizabeth and smiled. “Why are you so happy?” Elizabeth asked. Charles shrugged. “No reason,” he responded.

Elizabeth gave Charles a skeptical look before turning to look at Achilles. She extended out her hand, making Achilles grab her hand. She looked at Persephone and smiled. Elizabeth looked back at Achilles and spoke, “let’s go play with Caroline and the twins.” Achilles nodded as he walked alongside Elizabeth.

Standing by themselves at the door, Persephone looked at Charles and smiled. “Are you sure you want to tell them today?” Charles leaned closer to her and placed his hand over her waist. He brought her closer to him and pressed a peck against her cheek. “Of course, I am.”

Persephone smiled and wrapped her arms around Charles’s neck. She leaned in and kissed him. Charles pulled her closer to his body, closing the gap between them. They were in the middle of their passionate kiss when the doors to the mansion opened.

Mark and Taekyung walked inside the mansion, surprised by the scene portrayed in front of them. Mark blushed and looked away, trying to find a way to pass by them without bothering them.

Taekyung looked at the uncomfortable man next to him and then at the couple in front of them. He cleared his throat, making the two lovers separate from their kiss. Persephone looked at the two men and awkwardly smiled. “Mark, Taekyung, how was New York?”

“It was alright,” Taekyung responded. Charles greeted the men and spoke, “it’s good that you guys are back.” After Persephone also greeted them, they all stood there in awkward silence. To fill the silence, Taekyung spoke, “did you two not notice us come in, or were you just ignoring us?” Mark looked at Taekyung and grabbed his hand. “We’re going to say hi to everyone else.” Mark began to walk towards the living room while dragging Taekyung along with him.

Charles and Persephone watched them walk away. Charles looked at Persephone and she grabbed his hand. “We should also go find Caroline. She will be angry if I don’t say hi to her.” They made their way to the living room where they found Caroline greeting Mark and Taekyung while the twins were sitting on the floor, trying to catch their breaths along with Achilles.

Persephone walked up to Caroline and embraced her in a hug. After Caroline greeted Persephone, she greeted Charles. They all gathered in the living to converse. Caroline decided to wait until the children calmed down to continue playing with them.
