Welcome to Room 107
The hostel bell rang sharply at exactly 6:00 a.m.
For every student in the girls' hostel, it was the signal to wake up.
Except...
Room 107.
The room looked like a battlefield.
Books were scattered across the study table. Clothes hung on chairs. Two empty snack packets lay on the floor, and someone's notebook was being used as a pillow.
Five girls shared the room.
Five best friends.
Five completely different personalities.
And together...
They were the biggest headache of the entire hostel.
Outside the room, Mrs. Rahila, the hostel warden, stood with her arms crossed.
She knocked once.
No answer.
She knocked again.
Still nothing.
Finally, she banged on the door.
"Room 107! Open the door right now!"
A loud thud came from inside.
"Ow!"
Then another voice.
"Who pushed me?"
"I didn't!"
"You were sleeping on my blanket!"
Mrs. Rahila closed her eyes.
"They're awake..."
A few seconds later, the door slowly opened.
Standing there was Kaneez.
Her hair looked like she had fought a storm.
She rubbed her eyes and smiled innocently.
"Good morning, ma'am."
Mrs. Rahila stared at her.
"Kaneez... why does it take ten minutes to open a door?"
Kaneez smiled.
"Ma'am, great people never rush."
Mrs. Rahila sighed.
"And who told you that you're great?"
"My best friends."
Mrs. Rahila looked inside the room.
Sidra was still lying on her bed with a pillow over her face.
Naheed was wrapped inside a blanket like a mummy.
Fatima was already awake...
Reading a book.
And Wafa was trying to fold everyone's blankets because she knew nobody else would.
Mrs. Rahila pointed at them.
"You girls have exactly fifteen minutes."
"If you're late again..."
Kaneez completed the sentence with a smile.
"We'll hear another beautiful lecture."
Mrs. Rahila looked ready to faint.
"One day... all five of you will be the reason I retire early."
The door closed.
For three seconds...
Silence.
Then Kaneez clapped loudly.
"Good morning, Hostel Queens!"
A pillow flew across the room.
It hit Kaneez directly on the face.
Naheed shouted,
"Can you stay quiet for just ONE minute?"
Kaneez laughed.
"I can."
The room became silent.
One...
Two...
Three...
"This is boring."
Another pillow came flying.
Sidra finally sat up and said in her calm voice,
"I counted four seconds."
"You've improved."
Everyone burst into laughter.
Fatima looked up from her book.
"Can you all stop? We have a quiz today."
The room froze.
Kaneez blinked.
"We have... what?"
"A quiz."
"When?"
"First lecture."
Silence.
Naheed slowly looked at Fatima.
"Why are you telling us this NOW?"
Fatima adjusted her glasses.
"I told everyone last night."
Kaneez raised her hand.
"Objection."
"You were talking."
Sidra nodded.
"For two hours."
Wafa smiled.
"Actually..."
"You three were arguing about who eats more fries."
Kaneez cleared her throat.
"That was an important discussion."
Naheed rolled her eyes.
"You mean YOU ate everyone's fries."
"I was protecting them from getting cold."
The room exploded with laughter again.
Just then...
Kaneez opened the cupboard.
"My blue scarf is missing!"
Naheed looked at her.
"Check your own bed."
"It isn't there."
Sidra pointed without even looking.
"It's hanging on the fan."
Everyone looked up.
The blue scarf was actually hanging from the ceiling fan.
Kaneez scratched her head.
"...How did it get there?"
Nobody answered.
Because nobody knew.
Five minutes later...
The room looked even worse.
Naheed couldn't find one shoe.
Wafa was helping everyone.
Fatima was still reading.
Sidra quietly packed her bag.
Kaneez was talking nonstop.
"I had the funniest dream yesterday..."
Nobody replied.
"So in my dream, Mrs. Rahila became our class teacher."
Still no reply.
"And she failed herself in the attendance register."
Sidra smiled without looking up.
"Only you can dream something like that."
Naheed finally found her shoe.
"It was under YOUR bed!"
Kaneez looked surprised.
"My bed steals things."
Before anyone could answer...
The hostel bell rang again.
"Breakfast!"
Everyone rushed outside.
...
The dining hall was already full of students.
The moment Kaneez entered...
One girl whispered,
"Oh no..."
"The Hostel Queens are here."
Another girl laughed.
"Let's see what happens today."
The five girls collected their breakfast.
Bread.
Egg.
Tea.
Simple.
Kaneez looked at her plate.
"Only one egg?"
Naheed replied,
"Yes."
Kaneez looked at Fatima's plate.
Fatima noticed immediately.
"No."
"I wasn't asking."
"You were thinking."
"I was appreciating your egg."
"No."
Sidra quietly moved her own egg away.
"I know that look."
Wafa couldn't stop laughing.
Within two minutes...
Kaneez somehow managed to convince another student to exchange bread for jam.
Nobody understood how.
She simply smiled...
Talked for thirty seconds...
And came back victorious.
Naheed shook her head.
"You could sell air if you wanted."
Kaneez proudly replied,
"That's called talent."
...
An hour later...
The girls reached college.
Their classroom was on the second floor.
As soon as they entered...
The teacher looked up.
"The famous Room 107."
The whole class laughed.
Kaneez smiled confidently.
"Good morning, ma'am."
The teacher smiled back.
"I hope today there will be no drama."
Wafa whispered,
"Inshallah."
Sidra quietly added,
"Let's see."
Naheed crossed her fingers.
Fatima opened her notebook.
Kaneez looked around the classroom with a mischievous smile.
Something told her...
Today was going to be another unforgettable day.
And whenever Kaneez smiled like that...
The entire class knew one thing.
Peace was officially over.
To Be Continued...
