3. Tasty biscuits

"Find who that girl is." William ordered his assistant upon his return to the mansion.

Alexander and Maximilian looked at each in confuse. Why would he want to know about that girl. Obviously, his assistant, Jerome, have no idea who is his master talking about so his eyes fell on the other masters.

Maximilian cleared his suspicious "there is this girl who rides a horse and goes around wearing trousers. She has golden blond hair and is quite short. She seemed like a noble lady."

Jerome looked at William in disgust. Like what would he want with a girl. He is here because he caused troubles now he wants to continue causing troubles.

Alexander and Maximilian stayed with Liam the night then departed to the capital early in the morning. William was lying on the window edges looking down at the garden and forest. He thought to him "why not visit the field."

Jerome came with the reports about his research, he bowed then said "Your Grace, I searched up the girl you talked about."

William glanced at him his eyes telling him to talk. Jerome took out a paper fixed his voice and started "Your Grace, she is Julia Kingston, the only daughter of a Count living in the territory, their manor is few streets away. I have investigated about the count and her, he does not have a good image among the crowd here, his first wife died after birth with 5 years the night the Count brought another women to the manor and he had a son from that woman, that woman worked at a brothel and got pregnant with the count son. He ignored his wife and daughter till his wife died, since then his daughter was forgotten in the manor. However among the people of the town, they all know her, the girl walking around with trousers, most people know her around here, they all seemed to protect her whenever I asked so I couldn't get much specifically about her."

"I see! That is more than enough. I am going out." He went to the door saying "make sure to send the letter to mother about my return."

Jerome wished for a thank you from William but whatever he is used to it.

William arrived to field but Julia did not show up, he waited till the sun bid its farewell and the moon glowed in the night sky, she did not come. Maybe her maid told her about him and she got scared. He wanted to see her.

He came the next day and then day after but she still did not show up. William was about to give up on the fourth day he came but then he saw her walking alone. She looked like a cheerful person but today her back was bend a bit and her head was down, her short legs each in a time kicked the grass and her silky simple blue dress flew to the side with each kick. She was clearly upset.

He walked to her. When his boots appeared on Julia view she looked up directly, William was so glad to see her but then he saw her swollen cheek and red eyes, his blood burned with anger.

"Your Grace!" she said as her hands found way to her mouth covering it with a shock. "You actually came! It has been few days, how is your head injury and your elbow?"

"They are fine." He mumbled as his hand moved to her cheek.

Julia face blushed, she said in a low voice "Your Grace?" Did he notice her cheek after all Mary did to hide it?

"What happened to your face? Did you cry?" He asked worriedly.

Julia heart started beating so fast, her eyes got all watery she tried to not make her tears escape her eyes. William pulled her hand and talked to the shadow under the tree.

"I have some snacks, would you love to join me?" He asked politely.

He had a blanket laying on the ground where he was resting, Julia silently sat with him. He took a handkerchief from his pocket and unfolded it, few biscuits with shapes appeared in front of Julia. He offered her some moving his hand close to her.

Julia crunched on some biscuits taking small bites, it was the most delicious biscuit she has ever tasted. Her expression glowed up and she took another bite, in the world of sorrows and hardships, it seems like something sweet always fix the day.

"It is tasty!" She told him "this is so far the best biscuits I have ever had my entire life!!"

He was proud he made her happy so he thought he might come tomorrow and bring something different for her to try.

"My friends brought it from the capital, there is a famous bakery at the capital that nobles frequent. They were nice enough to bring some for me. I am glad that you found it suiting your taste." He said.

"The capital! No wonder it tastes different! I would love to go there one day." As she said that tears streamed down her eyes.

"Why? Why am I crying?" She erased the tears that refused to stop.

William said like it was normal "it is because they are tasty!! I never knew that delicious food can break someone into tears." He moved his hand that offered her to the back "I might as well have some of those luxurious biscuits for myself."

Julia found his reaction to keep the biscuits for himself amusing and adorable, instead of crying she started laughing. William was proud that his awkward attempt to make her laugh succeeded.
